SUMMARY
This position is responsible for welding together metal components with arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine bases, parts, plant equipment. All managers, supervisors and employees are responsible for supporting company quality policies and initiatives, as well as promoting and supporting continuous improvement efforts
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for planning, determining/selecting appropriate welding procedures and techniques.
- Accurately determines material setups, welding positions and the specifications involved.
- Accurately selects type of welding equipment and consumable rod required to conform to the metal characteristics of the components to be welded.
- Determines various techniques and procedures appropriate to the types of welding to be performed.
- Typically determines most appropriate gas (with proper regulation) and orifice to obtain proper welds and maximum strength.
- Correctly and routinely sets up welding equipment required, clamps material to be welded to dimensional requirements.
Responsible for performing welding ranging from standard to specialized and involved, using arc or gas methods (or combinations) to weld diversified work.
- Routinely practices safety necessary for himself and all other employees.
- Cleans products before welding; cleans products after welding, prior to delivery to next work center/Department.
- Uses the tools and skills of continuous quality improvement (i.e., measurement, corrective action).
- Uses correct techniques to minimize distortion and warpage and provide welds of required strength and required appearance.
- Typically makes use of proper measurement devices necessary to maintain required accuracy. Works with an understanding of Department and Plant requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Less than a high school education. Blueprint reading skill required. Required to know welding symbols.
( ) Welding Entry requirements: Industrial Welding and six months experience.
( ) Welder B requirements: Industrial Welding and 3-7 years experience.
( ) Welder A requirements: Industrial Welding and 7-10 years experience.
Additional classes (courses, seminars) would include the following: welding classes and blueprint reading
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Basic ability to read and write/print.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract and use basic measurement tools.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.
