Center Point Energy
is looking for a (Overnight) Data Collection Driver - LCL340 to join our Team, located in Minneapolis, MN.

You will have the ability to drive advanced mobile leak detection equipment through assigned areas to collect methane emissions data that is utilized by field technicians and the company’s Distribution Integrity Management group. Identify and work with the region’s leak survey supervisor and analyst on issues that are found in the field.

*** This position requires driving a data collection vehicle at night, 8:00PM to 6:00AM. Schedule is subject to change. ***

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Plan daily route using maps and existing drive data to ensure effective operation of the Data Collection technology and maximum field-of-view coverage.
  • Observe, document, and communicate gas leaks or malfunctioning of equipment and other hazardous conditions to ensure customer and employee safety and compliance with company policy.
  • Respond to our internal and external customers’ requests, questions, and concerns in a manner that meets customer expectations.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of data collection technologies and methods.
  • Observe, note and report irregularities of driving routes, data collection equipment, and vehicle, to ensure supervision is aware of any potential problems.
  • Verify proper equipment function and documents data collection drives to assure system safety and reliability.
  • Accurately enter external data collection parameters to ensure equipment utilizes correct algorithms for calculations.
  • Identify equipment issues that need to be addressed.
  • Measure methane emissions by operating advanced mobile leak detection equipment predominantly at night.
  • Participate in training and cross training to increase job knowledge and competency.

Your background includes:

  • Requires a high school diploma.
  • Requires 0-2 years of utility maintenance operations or equivalent experience.

  • Able to travel for various functions, meetings and other company related commitments and stay overnight as required.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop, for extended periods.
  • Able to be “on call” and respond accordingly in the event of emergency situations.
  • Able to hear oral communication, either in person or on equipment, such as telephone or mobile phone.
  • Able to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Able to support the Emergency Operating Plan.
  • Able to work in fast-paced environment with a high volume of workload and frequent, short deadlines including working nights, holidays and/or weekends to meet established deadlines and to support emergency situations.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
  • Able to travel to field locations to conduct data collecting and stay overnight, as required.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether open office, cubicle or private office.
  • Able to work inside a vehicle for most of the work schedule and occasionally work outside for some of the work schedule with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Able to reach, grasp and move items.
