Job Summary:

The OR Technologist, also known as a Surgical Technologist or Scrub Tech, plays a crucial role in the operating room (OR) team. This position requires a skilled individual who supports surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging surgical equipment, and assisting the surgical team during procedures. The OR Technologist ensures the utmost safety, efficiency, and sterile conditions in the OR while maintaining impeccable communication and collaboration with the surgical team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Prepare operating rooms by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.

2. Assist in surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and support to surgeons and other OR team members.

3. Maintain sterile conditions throughout surgeries, ensuring proper instrument sterilization, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices.

4. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.

5. Collaborate effectively with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other OR team members to optimize patient care and surgical outcomes.

6. Position and drape patients prior to surgery, ensuring proper patient positioning and skin preparation.

7. Assist with patient transport, transfers, and positioning, as required.

8. Responsible for completing necessary documentation accurately, including surgical count records, equipment used, and medications administered.

9. Troubleshoot and report malfunctioning equipment or potential hazards to the appropriate personnel.

10. Adhere to safety regulations and protocols, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.

11. Participate in ongoing education to stay informed of new surgical techniques, equipment advancements, and best practices.

12. Maintain a clean and orderly operating room environment, restocking supplies, and organizing equipment.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Certification as a Surgical Technologist or completion of an accredited OR Technology program.

2. Previous experience working as an OR Technologist preferred.

3. Proficient knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques, and instruments.

4. Excellent understanding of sterilization techniques, infection control procedures, and aseptic practices.

5. Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.

6. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

7. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and maintain professionalism under pressure.

8. Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and assist with patient transfers as required.

9. Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

10. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

11. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

12. Current CPR certification.
