Hiring Department
Opthamology Department
This position will assist patients with eyewear selection. Measure, fit, adapt, adjust, and repair patient eyewear. Manufacture lenses in the on-site finishing lab as necessary. Instruct and assist patients with contact lens insertion, removal, and care. Fit, dispense, clean, and sterilize contact lenses. Prepare and deliver work orders to the laboratory for lens and eyewear processing. Verify quality, specifications, and measurements of materials returned from the lab. Maintain inventory of eyewear, accessories, contact lenses, contact lens solutions, and low vision optical devices. Maintain records of patient prescriptions, work orders, and payments. Counsel patients with third party insurance as to the specifics of their coverage, including (but not limited to) patient’s responsibility, time for filing, etc. Prepare patient’s bill, collect payment and input charges into computer system. Maintain patient information in database and patient files. Collaborate with frame manufacturer representatives to determine appropriate frames to purchase for population served. Negotiate responsible and favorable prices for lab and frame products and services. Reconcile statements from suppliers for purchases made. Assist in the establishment of retail pricing for all eyewear products and accessories. Track inventory and sales.

Salary Range: $12.83-$20.21 hourly

Minimum Qualifications
A High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired, is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred: An Associate’s degree from a recognized program of optometric technology or certification from and accredited school of opticianry, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferring two years of experience as an optometric technician or optician.
Certification from the American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiners is preferred.
