This vacancy is located in Jackson, Louisiana at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex (30 miles North of Baton Rouge) in the Dietary Department. This is a 24 hour facility. This position serves as a Dietetic Technician. This position will be filled by a new Probation or by Promotion of a permanent state employee.


This position requires direct patient contact. Foodservice management and meal planning is a duty of this position. Knowledge of medical terminology is also preferred.

Examples of Work


VFMC is a specialized 24 hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed as hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital care service that is surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements, with the remainder of the facility surveyed annually under CMS and state standards for nursing facility care. Specialized units include 10 beds for acute and subacute care including a wound care service, and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 220 classified positions and 20+ unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $22 million. The physical plant consists of three patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157 acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems, and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance.


LDH OAAS-Villa Feliciana Medical Complex is a facility based program providing medical care and rehabilitative services to medically complex patients diagnosed with chronic diseases, disabilities and terminal illnesses. This position serves as the principle assistant to the Registered Dietitian/Nutrition Services Director. Work is on a journeyman level. Resident nutrition care services are based on age, health and developmental status of individual residents.


40% Conducts resident interviews using pre-developed nutrition screening forms, obtains diet history information, gathers objective laboratory data for the Registered Dietitian’s use in evaluation and assessment of appropriate nutrition and nutrition education.


Monitors food services for conformance with quality and industry standards.


Maintains and improves standards of sanitation, safety, and security via random and scheduled inspections.


Collects comprehensive data on weight status of residents and notifies the Registered Dietitian per protocol.


Collects data on nutrition supplementation usage.


Collects data on food acceptance and menu acceptance.


Collects food preferences and ensures residents are served in a timely manner.


Collects food temperature data surveys upon delivery to residential wards.


40% Monitors meal service for accuracy of diet orders.


Assists the Food Service Contractor with culturally and age appropriate food selection offerings.


Gathers data according to prescribed methods of use in evaluating food service systems.


Obtains, evaluates and utilizes dietary history information for planning nutritional care.


Guides individuals in food selection, food preparation, and menu planning based on nutritional needs upon discharge.


Calculates nutrient intakes and dietary patterns.


Assists in referrals for continuity of patient care.


10% Assists with facility Nutrition Service needs in the absence of Registered Dietitian.


5% Maintains credentials


Participates in continuing education activities Actively participates in disaster events as called upon. Conforms to all CMS standards.


5% Other duties as assigned.
