Specific Responsibilities:
Clinical duties:
- Assists with vaccine inventory and temperature logs.
- Administers medications per provider orders and documents required information in the electronic health record.
- Explains exam and procedure to patient.
- Takes patient’s vital signs and reports any abnormalities to a nurse or provider.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Records patient’s medical history, medication list, allergies, any recent test results, and records in medical record.
- Contacts patients regarding test results and need for follow up.
- Offers client education and information regarding referrals and follow up.
- Assists providers with patient exams and acts as chaperon.
- Enters laboratory requisitions written by providers.
- Ensures a safe and healthy environment by adhering to OSHA guidelines for the prevention of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, utilization of universal precautions.
- Assists with medication inventory.
- Prepares and ensures specimens are correctly labeled for transport to laboratory.
- Assists with cleaning and sterilization of equipment.
- Assists nurses as needed.
- Inputs referrals according to the provider into referral database (Plan Link/EPIC)
- Complete follow-up lists by following provider and Nurse instructions.
- Provides pretest counseling prior to performing HIV rapid testing.
- Serve as the backup to perform laboratory collections (venipunctures/urine/finger sticks) testing.
- Informs providers of any known abnormal lab or diagnostic results and informs provider when patients are ready to be seen.
- Provides immunization as recommended by nursing assessment and records necessary information into Florida Shots.
- Prepares clients to be seen by provider and ensure appropriate exam and testing supplies are in the room.
- Conducts follow up calls to patients for missed appointment.
- Assist with ensuring efficient patient flow.
Administrative
- Participates in meetings and in services as assigned.
- Contact patients by phone or mail for coordination of care and scheduling of visits.
- As needed, assist in the tracking, management, and referral of patients for follow-up care
- Tracking of clinical results including but not limited to pap smears and breast imaging studies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Following initiation by the provider, completion and tracking of referrals for high-risk maternity care
- Enters health information and other pertinent data into Plan Link, FL SHOTS, and/or other required systems timely and accurately.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.
- Re-schedules patients for new appointment
- Monitoring lab reports to ensure receipt and provider review of all abnormal pap smear and pathology findings.
- As needed, assist in the clinic including all responsibilities under the scope of Medical Assistant
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor as needed.
- Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
