Job Description

SUMMARY

The Operations Manager provides leadership and day-to-day management of assembly floor personnel supporting single-engine helicopter production and composite component and wire harness production lines. The role encompasses fuselage fabrication, helicopter final assembly, ground and flight test, FAA airworthiness certification, and management of composite and wire harness production at the remote facility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, meeting cost and schedule requirements, and ensuring safe manufacturing operations through establishing and adhering to operating policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Support Visual Management and Daily Accountability on the production floor
  • Support Continuous Improvement across all production areas within the scope of responsibility
  • Key contributor and mentor in on-the-job training (OJT) for team members
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • Maintain AS9100 compliance
  • Work within and outside the Operations function to resolve issues that affect production, such as non-conformances, material shortages, ground and flight test squawks, tooling or facility issues, workforce, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a performance driven organization to meet the production schedule
  • Ensure the production schedule is achieved consistently
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the single-engine production line and composite/ wire harness lines
  • Establish training programs to continually upgrade employees’ technical capabilities and knowledge of governing procedures and regulations requirements
  • Prepares and delivers progress and status reports to the Department Manager and/or Director of Operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage employees to meet production costs and schedule goals in compliance with company policy
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Position manages production floor technicians (structural, avionics, A&P) and tool crib attendant

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • The ability to understand and follow instructions and the ability to concentrate is required
  • Understanding of Lean Principals
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers and functions
  • The ability to get along with others or to be part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Regular attendance at the worksite is required.
  • Access to Export Control Information required
  • Ability to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists
  • Experience with aircraft sheet metal fabrication, avionics, propulsion systems, flight controls, and composite and electrical wire harness manufacturing is a plus
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of FAR Part 21 & 145 regulations

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline required and 3-5 years work-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
