Summary
Lightsource bp is seeking an Operations Engineer to support the operations & maintenance and asset management teams for solar operating assets in the U.S. This critical team member will work directly with the Engineering team to ensure project hand-over activities to Operations are efficient. This role will also support on identified issues and be the technical lead for the response team to local and global internal stakeholders. The individual will also have a key role in accepting technical deliverables from external parties and validating project and performance metrics. The candidate will be well experienced in project execution and understand how facilities are constructed and will provide additional cross-functional learnings to early stage and execution stage assets. This role is a U.S. based role with a global reporting matrix to our Operations Engineering group and will be tasked to leverage resources across multiple regions.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure optimal planning, cooperation, and operation of the solar plant capacity and reliability during the commissioning period until transfer to O&M and Asset Management team.
• Incorporate lessons learned from operation assets and construction into design process and technical specifications.
• Support EPC team with preparing and executing the QA/AC on commissioning of utility scale solar plants.
• Coordinate efforts between Asset Managers, and O&M Technicians, and Project Engineers to develop and implement improvements to site performance and reliability through updated technical specifications.
• Support Design, Asset Management, and O&M team by providing feedback, technical/engineering input, and validating data on teams’ innovative ideas and concepts to improve operations process and/or reduce costs
• Review and support technical team with technical specifications and factory acceptance testing.
• Deliver full-circle key lessons and learnings on executed projects and related equipment, manufacturers, and practices.
Knowledge
• In-depth knowledge of NEC, UL, and NFPA latest codes
• Ability to work with a team and independently to develop solutions to technical issues.
• Excellent electrical forensic skills
• Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience.
• Excellent communication skills
• Problem solving and ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrate ability to perform with minimal oversight.
• Ability to meet deadlines and fast-paced work environment.
Qualifications
• Attained a bachelor’s degree, ideally Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Other relevant qualifications and supporting experience will be considered.
• OSHA 30 Construction Certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role working in utility-scale solar projects.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to visit project sites and attend other key meetings as necessary.
Experience
• Experienced in a similar role with a minimum of 5+ years.
• Extensive experience with PV utility-scale design for construction, including high voltage substations and energy storage components.
• Extensive experience in problem solving and analytics of data reactively and proactively.
• Experience in solar PV utility-scale construction, including project management support and technical document reviews.
• Extensive experience in commissioning, close-out processes and operations.
• Extensive experience in evaluating and troubleshooting technical issues in operating projects to support an Asset Management team.

- US team members accrue 20 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually. All team members are also eligible for COVID-19 leave.
- Our team members are eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, calculated based on corporate, team and individual objectives. Team members in the US may receive an additional 50% of their annual bonus in a “retention bank” as well, available for withdrawal after three years of bonus awards have accrued.

Lightsource bp pays for the first $800 of the monthly insurance premium. For staff members with dependents, Lightsource will cover 50% of the costs of covering dependents. The team member contributes the remainder of the premium, if any, through pre-tax payroll deduction.
