Job Description

Chevron is accepting online applications for the Olefins Trader position located in Houston, TX through 06/01/2023 at 11:59 p.m. CST


Trades physical and financial commodities in the international and domestic trading markets, both spot and term. Strives for asset optimization and trading profit. Develops trading strategies, initiates and manages physical and financial positions for profit, and manages risk exposure for system and trading positions. Executes trades for Chevron's equity volumes, supply activity for refineries, and third party trading for profit positions.
Leads projects of medium scope and complexity. Work often impacts across work groups or at the BU level. Detailed knowledge of the work function and general knowledge of related work functions.

Summary:

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

This role’s primary responsibility will be to develop Chevron Olefin trading business and the associated Gulf Coast export assets and freight positions to support it.

The role will require identification and execution of new business for Chevron. The trader will maintain existing relationships and build new ones to accomplish this growth. New markets should add physical optionality and earnings potential to the portfolio. The role will also collaborate with London and Singapore offices to assist in managing and optimizing the export flows to Europe and Asia.

Identify, structure and execute profitable arbitrage trading strategies utilizing physical Olefins, derivative instruments, freight strategies with a sharp focus on earnings generation, increasing optionality and control of associated risk positions. Manage and hedge inventory positions around US exports.

Must develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships, working closely with other traders, analysts and schedulers within Chevron as well as with external trading partners and brokers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of global olefins flows and associated arbitrage opportunities
  • Strong knowledge of Olefins, Petrochemicals and NGL purity product markets including physical flows and infrastructure.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated Olefins experience
  • Bachelor´s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance or related fields

  • Proven ability to successfully develop and foster relationships both internally and externally. Success utilizing those relationship to the achieve win/win results for the organization
  • A growth mindset with a firm understanding of commercial discipline and market dynamics. Demonstrated understanding of market alternatives and the ability to utilize that knowledge to make timely decisions in the best interest of the enterprise. Demonstrated understanding of profit & loss.
  • Strong interpersonal skills providing for exceptional rapport with people of all levels internally and externally. Demonstrates the ability to lead a cross-functional (trading, analysts, schedulers, etc.) team and generate value through others by leveraging their knowledge and abilities. Has the passion and ability to mentor others. Can clearly communicate strategic and tactical imperatives to a large audience and senior management.
  • Master´s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance or related fields
  • Demonstrated proficiency in understanding business drivers and ability to develop and implement plans to exceed financial objectives. Strong drive to continually explore new commercial opportunities, evaluate and execute
