Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires current Illinois residency to apply.
The Facilities Department is currently seeking an Office Support Specialist to provide administrative support to the Assistant Director for the Alton and ESL Operations, as well as other staff reporting to that position. This role will include reviewing requests for space rentals and allocating available space for events held at the ESLHEC by SIU staff as well as the neighboring communities. Assigned tasks for this role range from routine to complex and are frequently of a confidential nature. The Office Support Specialist has frequent interpersonal action with visitors to the ESLHEC and staff, and with representatives of our lessees.
Additional responsibilities include generating and distributing a report of monthly activities held at the ELSHEC to Campus Police and all other unit heads. This role will also manage the fitness room for ESLHEC staff to include: promoting the facility, provide programming of the fitness room doors for authorized users, addressing specific concerns of members, upgrading equipment, answering general inquiries regarding the fitness room and services, as well as providing oversight of the maintenance and upkeep of the fitness room and equipment therein.
The duties performed in this position require discretion, independent judgment, problem solving abilities, and excellent organizational skills, as such, the successful candidate for this role will be self-motivated, responsible, and capable of working independently.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • College coursework in any curriculum, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
  • Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the categories below:
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
  • One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of the series
  • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • Work experience performing office/clerical activities, including the use of computer systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 month)
