Job Description

NYS Department of Health employee currently serving as an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) G6 OR a current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55B/C service in a position allocated to a Grade 4 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) G6, OR an applicant currently approved for consideration under NYS Department of Civil Services 55B/C Program

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate must be able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced office environment; ability to work with a diverse group of professionals; have strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal), strong attention to detail, and a desire to contribute to a team-oriented workplace; ability to prioritize multiple assignments. The preferred candidate will also have a high level of competence using the following computer programs: Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access; Adobe Pro, 365, Teams, and Share Point. Knowledge of office administration; proper grammar, punctuation, spelling and business communications.

Duties Description

The Office Assistant 1 Keyboarding will provide secretarial and administrative support to the Western Regional Office. The incumbent will cover reception and screen/transfer calls to the appropriate parties; proofread documents, schedule meetings upon request, oversee shredding services, assist with mail duties, update and maintain various databases and spreadsheets as needed; assist staff with their travel, entering information into SFS, schedule/reserve conference rooms for staff, and follow up on projects as assigned.

Additional Comments
Permanent, full-time competitive appointment. Transfer candidates will be asked for their SS# to verify eligibility. Nominated candidate will need to successfully pass a keyboarding performance test to be eligible for appointment.
