Washington DC- Onsite
Office 365 (O365) Administrator, in the division of OCIO Infrastructure, serves the technical lead for O365 administration. Responsible for maintaining the Microsoft O365 environment and performing technical tasks related to domains, security, email, users, and licenses. Administer and support Office 365, Azure, Teams and Exchange policies. Maintain a highly secure system through proper configuration and system access monitoring. Manage and monitor Office 365 services including O365 tenant, cloud Office suite, One Drive, SharePoint and Teams. Ensuring the overall health, stability and accessibility of our MS cloud environment.
Job Duties
Microsoft O365 Administration
Evaluates, plans, deploys, and administers Microsoft O365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business. Technical lead for O365 systems.
Utilizes O365 Admin portal, Azure portal and Powershell to modify existing systems to correct errors, adapt to new systems and services, and upgrade administrative components in alignment with agency goals and industry best practices.
Administers application and hosted services roles, accounts, credentials, and configuration to enable end user access to O365 services.
Researches and performs troubleshooting activities to triage events in a controlled manner; resolves complex system alerts and addresses issues.
Participates in the auditing of application access, inventory of software, and licenses. Proactively monitors and reports performance and utilization of O356 tenant.
Coordinates with Microsoft Azure/Active Directory system administrator for authentication related issue resolution.
Testing and Validation
Responsible for the evaluation, testing and implementation of new O365 applications and cloud hosted services.
Ensures changes and/or additions meet all change management requirements to prevent unforeseen negative consequences to associated business and technical processes.
Exchange Administration
Uses Powershell and O365 to administer and manage hybrid Exchange environment (on premises and in the cloud)
Administers email security solution(s) to proactively monitor and report performance and utilization in coordination with Security Analysts.
Troubleshoots Exchange issues and perform problem analysis to resolution
Backup Azure Active Directory Administrator
Provides backup support to primary Azure Active Directory system administrator and technical policy administration.
Solutions Research
Continually researches new functionality and technologies necessary to properly administer O365 and related Microsoft technologies. Recommend and lead the implementation of new technologies.
Organizational Education and Documentation
Interacts with customers across the organization in cooperative efforts to disseminate detailed information regarding new and existing technologies with O365.
Develops training materials and documentation in conjunction with other IS departments such as the Mission Systems, Administrative Systems, Service Desk, and Network teams to promote and enhance use of O365 products and services.
Security and Compliance
Works with Information Assurance and Information Technology (IT) Security departments to manage O365 governance and compliance.
Follows all compliance policies and ensures technology remains within compliance standards, maintaining functionality and security.
Participate in preparing and testing the disaster recovery and incident response plans.
Qualifications
Minimum
Minimum of 5 years' prior work experience in IT application or infrastructure technical administration especially in the areas of:
  • Must be familiar with PowerShell scripting, MS O365 administration, O365 security, MS tenant structures and networking cloud services.
  • Exchange (hybrid on prem and Exchange Online environments)
  • Must have 2+ years in O365 management, development and/or design.
  • Active Directory/Azure Active Directory
7-9 years of experience working with Office 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and Azure (with subject matter expertise in at least one or all)
Experience working with Azure AD for Office 365 Identity Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS/WAP) and Directory Synchronization (AADC/DirSync)
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology related field. Can substitute work experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge and experience.
Experience with cloud-based application suites such as Microsoft Office 365 or GSuite/ESuite in a medium or large business environment. Demonstrated experience in administration of Microsoft Office 365 workloads (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams OneDrive for Business).
Experience working on IT and data projects involving end users and IT professionals.

Proven experience in customer service OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred
Server & network administration experience (Windows or Linux)
Microsoft certification
Office 365 planning, deployment and management in a medium business/government enterprise environment
Teams
OneDrive for Business and SharePoint permissions and other security related considerations.
Azure experience
Competencies
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in relation to working with IT professionals, business users, and end users.
Ability to communicate simply, effectively, and in a non-technical manner so that individuals who do not have a technical background can understand what is being discussed.
Knowledge and troubleshooting experience in support of modern Office suites.
Strong knowledge of Office 365 plans, service descriptions, and features.
Strong understanding of Microsoft products and services including knowledge of technical protocols, security concepts, and integrations with both on prem and cloud products.
Must have a high degree of customer service skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Experience in writing knowledge base articles based on resolution paths.
