Job Description

Position Summary:
This role is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, including collaboration with Human Resources to recruit graduate nurse residents, the development and implementation of program curriculum, oversight of resident progression through program components, and development of innovative strategies for retention of graduate nurses at Central Maine Healthcare.
This individual delivers excellent customer service to internal and external constituents by maximizing effective communication and partnership; positively using feedback to create continuous improvement and problem resolution; managing expectations and change; enhancing Central Maine’s appearance, approach and style through providing exemplary professionalism and competence; and demonstrating extraordinary ability to perform the technical skills of the job.
Essential Duties:
  • Communicates effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate identification and resolution of issues or program elements to ensure program remains dynamic, updated, and reflective of best practices related to graduate nurse residents.
  • Acts in a leadership role for all New Graduate Nurse Education, articulating program needs, and reporting program or participant issues to the Professional Practice Manager.
  • Coordinates the entry of the graduate nurse resident into the program by creating onboarding and orientation schedules and facilitating sign up for required courses/trainings.
  • Develops and implements the Vizient/AACN Graduate Nurse Residency Program curriculum in collaboration with the Professional Practice Manager.
  • Coaches students and preceptors in the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, including goal setting, skill development, and acclimating to new role.
  • Evaluates program outcomes and reports outcomes to appropriate stakeholders biannually.
  • Establishes and maintains tracking methods to ensure licensure, competencies, orientation, and other program components are completed within the identified time frames.
  • Coordinates classes, debriefing and education sessions, Nurse Residency Graduation, and other activities that constitute the Graduate Nurse Residency Program curriculum.
Education and Experience:
  • Competencies required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support, Healthcare Provider Level.
  • Preferred experience: Five or more years of medical surgical, intensive care, or specialty nursing experience in an acute care setting. Three or more years of instructional experience, both formal and informal.
  • Required experience: Three or more years of medical surgical, intensive care, or specialty nursing experience in an acute care setting. Instructional teaching experience, both formal and informal.
  • MSN preferred, BSN required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to lead, manage, develop and implement programs.
  • Exceptional customer service skills required.
