      Position Description:

      The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice to ensure an environment of safe quality care in an outpatient setting located in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert Hospital.


      The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

      The Ideal Candidate will be an Infectious Disease APP with excellent communication skills, professionalism, effective and efficient time management skills, wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to providing direct patient care in an outpatient setting.

      In this role you will:

      • Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Infectious Disease services.
      • Subspeciality interest in HIV and Travel Medicine is preferred.
      • Collaborate with interdisciplinary health are teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring medical intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Infectious Disease Clinic.


      Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

      • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
      • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
      • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
      • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
      • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
      • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
      • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
      • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
      • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
      • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
      • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
      • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care

      Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to practitioners with prior experience in hospital-based care and/or medical/surgical patients.


      Minimum Education:

      Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing
      Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
