The City of Corona Fire Department has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Educator. The Nurse Educator is responsible for performing professional-level work in developing EMS related lesson plans, providing EMS education, and evaluating and participating in the EMS continuous quality improvement (CQI) plan. Knowledge & Education


  • Knowledge of principles and practices of emergency medical care procedures and practices.
  • Possession of a California Registered Nurse Licensure, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing or a related field.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws, regulatory codes, ordinances, and procedures related to area of responsibility.
Skills/Abilities


  • Ability to select and supervise staff, provide training and development opportunities, ensure work is performed effectively, and evaluate performance in an objective and positive manner.
  • Make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Develops and implements continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs by reviewing and analyzing EMS effectiveness, system trends, and needs in an effort to ensure EMS system excellence; develops and assists in the formulation of policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver training programs.
  • Ability to identifies, develops, delivers and evaluates education for the on-going development, accreditation, certification and recertification of Paramedics (EMT-P) and Emergency Medical Technicians-I/Basic (EMT-I) in compliance with EMS Continuing Education, and adherence to Riverside County EMS Agency policies & protocols, California Code of Regulations, state law, and federal standards.
  • Analyze situations and adopt a quick effective and responsible course of action.
  • Review and analyze section programs and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate and select equipment and supplies.
  • Understand and interpret laws, ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a co-liaison for EMS-related issues with State and Local regulatory agencies, base hospital personnel, paramedic receiving center personnel, other fire agencies, medical equipment suppliers, paramedic training institutes, citizens, and other agencies / individuals associated with pre-hospital care. Develops and maintains effective working relations, information sharing / dissemination, conflict resolution, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, documentation, and correspondence.
Experience


  • Four (4) years of experience in the delivery of emergency medical care and/ or clinical CQI oversight and education delivery.
  • Candidates with a California Paramedic Licensure are desirable.
  • Possession of a valid California's Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Candidates that possess previous work experience as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse, EMT- Paramedic, Pre-Hospital Care Instructor/Program Director, or Base Hospital Coordinator is highly desirable.

The Organization


The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.


The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.


The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2023 is $340.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $177.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 850 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
