The Network Security Analyst works to secure the Kansas Judicial Branch’s network infrastructure by configuring, testing, and optimizing networks and implementing solutions to improve overall information security. This position is distinguished from other information technology positions by the responsibility of providing technical leadership of security initiatives.

Job Duties:

• Work on assigned projects related to cyber security systems.
• Training staff to understand and use security protocols.
• Creating network policies and authorization roles and defending against unauthorized access, modifications, and destruction.
• Configuring security systems, analyzing security requirements, and recommending improvements.
• Installing, administering, and troubleshooting network security solutions.
• Updating software with the latest security patches and ensuring the proper defenses are present for each network resource.
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Information Systems in designing and implementing all security-related functions for the judicial network. This includes system backup plans and procedures as well as disaster recovery tests.
• Acts as a resource to judicial staff and when working with other state agencies and/or other organizational units.
• Provides support to other IS teams.
• Responsible for one’s own work product and may provide guidance, assistance, or mentorship to less knowledgeable or experienced coworkers. This may include scheduling of work, instructing in work methods, and reviewing work products.
• Monitoring network traffic for suspicious behavior.
• This position shares responsibilities with the Network Security Engineer in a variety of different areas, including but not limited to firewalls, routers, switches, video applications, wireless QoS, proxy, VPNs, and access control systems.
• Performing vulnerability and penetration tests, identifying, defending against, remediating threats, and developing disaster recovery plans.

Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or a related field and four or more years’ experience directly working with Cisco firewalls is required. At least one of these security certifications is required: CCNP, CISSP, SSCP, CEH, GIAC, Security +, OSCP, CCNA.

OR

Experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis as follows: graduation from high school or equivalent and eight years working in computer-related areas; four years of computer experience must be directly with Networking and Security Applications.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to handle large and highly complete work assignments in a timely fashion. Working knowledge of security protocols, IT systems, security measures and best practices.
