The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Information Technology Services organization is seeking an experienced Network Engineer who possesses an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our Enterprise Technology Services team, supporting a team of diverse and talented professionals in support of our mission to deliver exceptional service to the UCLA campus enterprise.
As a member of the Technical Services team, the Network Engineer is responsible for the deployment and support of the UCLA Campus network infrastructure systems. Responsibilities include participation in network planning, and installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and other networking equipment; providing technical support for outages, problems, incidents and upgrades; analyzing the effectiveness of the existing processes and techniques; reviewing, researching and recommending best practices; utilizing various tools to implement innovative solutions aimed at enhancing network performance and capabilities. The Network Engineer will also assist in project management and tracking, and support activities relating to network provisioning, radio systems and cable television operations. Further responsibilities include on-call rotation and after-hours support as assigned or requested.

Required/Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Engineering (or related) OR three years (or more) of equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five or more years of experience of demonstrated experience in systems/network engineering or administration.

Experience with network monitoring tools such as Nagios, RANCID and AKiPS and analyzers such as Wireshark, NetStumbler and tcpdump to analyze packets to conduct root cause analysis and problem resolution.

Basic programming or scripting skills to facilitate the automation of common administrative tasks and manage network devices.
Required
Good understanding and working knowledge of project management processes, planning and scheduling methods and tools, and ability to adapt them to organization.

Detailed knowledge and experience with multiple network communications standards such as IPv4, IPv6, Multicast, TCP/IP Suite, DHCP, 802.11x, and Domain Name Service (DNS).

Ability to analyze network problems including fault isolation, problem resolution and service restoration.

Demonstrated hands-on experience with administration of Local Area Network, Wide Area Network, Service Provider Network, and Enterprise Network technologies.

Skill to manage multi-protocol routers and layer 2/3 switches; ability to configure Cisco routers and switches; knowledge of the Cisco IOS Command Hierarchy.

Ability and willingness to provide after-hours technical support as assigned.

Hands on experience using a trouble/service ticketing system, and Network Monitoring Systems.

Ability to move, carry or lift items up to 40 pounds with assistance.

Ability to drive university vehicle to work locations on and off campus.

Hands on experience using the InfoBlox ipam/dhcp/dns appliance or similar tool.
