MSW and DSW Part-Time Lecturer Positions

University of Southern California

Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work

About the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work

The USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work champions social justice for the well-being of individuals, families and communities through innovative teaching of evidence-informed and practice-based skills, pioneering transformative research and cultivating leadership for social change.

The school’s programs equip students with a broad background of knowledge about health and social welfare problems, programs, services and policies designed to prevent and address those problems and existing and emergent trends and issues. Across all programs, students are professionalized and encouraged to develop professional philosophies and approaches that are in harmony with the basic tenets of their chosen professions. At the same time, students share the desire and calling to prevent and mitigate severe social and health problems that challenge the viability of culturally diverse and complex urban settings; to build on the strengths of individuals, families, and communities; and to lead the scholarly search for innovative, efficacious, and just solutions.

Qualifications Sought

Part-time lecturers must hold a MSW with a minimum of five years of post MSW related experience. LCSW and/or PhD, DSW, or doctorate in an allied field is preferred. Candidates must be able to teach in multiple areas across the curriculum and across the generalist program. Leadership in dissemination of ideas and educational expertise to the profession, community constituents, and other stakeholders is also an expectation. Effective communication skills together with support for the School’s strong orientation to the science of social work and commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential.

Applicants with exceptional credentials in a variety of expertise will be considered. We are particularly interested in part-time lecturers with expertise in diversity and social and environmental justice, school social work, social work in sports, clinical practice with military and veterans, LGBTQ+ health disparities, community organizing, policy and advocacy and executive leadership. In keeping with our focus on diversity and global issues, we seek part-time lecturers who have strong professional profiles with regards to teaching, service, and scholarship involving Latinx, Asian, Hawaiian-Pacific Islander, African American, and/or Native American populations. We encourage individuals who were impacted by the carceral system to apply.

Responsibilities

Part-time lecturers work no more than 30 hours per week teaching campus-based classes and may receive a variety of teaching and service-related assignments.
