Job Description
Description

This is a large area with a long history of Young Life. We have suburban, small town and multiethnic ministries in the area. East Clark County Young Life encapsulates Evergreen School District (in East Vancouver), Camas and Washougal. Nestled in the Gateway to the Gorge on the Columbia River, East Clark County is one of the most desirable places to live in the Pacific Northwest. Just a 20-minute drive to the PDX Airport in Portland, there are endless things to see and experiences to be had in any direction you drive.

We have one full-time staff and are looking to expand our team to more effectively share the Gospel. We currently have three high school ministries and three WyldLife clubs with a desire to grow into six high school ministries and six WyldLife ministries. Our area encompasses students and families from a variety of socio-economic realities.

We are looking for someone to begin ministry in the Evergreen School District and provide support for the ministries in Camas and Washougal. We are open to hiring three separate part-time staff, one in each of the three school districts (Evergreen, Camas and Washougal). Roles could vary from teacher staff, church partnerships, student staff or more and would be approximately five to 15 hours per week depending on the role.

Evergreen School District is highly diverse, and we desire a staff person who can navigate the many cross-cultural realities of students' lives in these communities. A candidate who is bilingual (Spanish speaking) and/or has experience and familiarity with Eastern European cultural dynamics would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health, and church relationships.

  • Consistently living out a life of prayer and listening.
  • Follow up on personal growth plans made with volunteer leaders.
  • We are all on the same journey of spiritual development together and get to encourage and grow together!
  • Personal relationship with Jesus is active and growing.
  • Develop a personal growth plan to further foster your relationship with Jesus.

Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

  • Contact Work Coach: Take new leaders to the school, events, etc. and provide “on the job” contact work training.
  • Consistent communication with the leader team regarding ministry, meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Check in with staff and the committee once a month with a ministry report.
  • A commitment to inclusion and greater cultural understanding through training, intentional reading, and conversations with staff, leaders and kids.

Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, donor care, public relations (branding).

  • Part-time staff person has a purchasing card and works to stay within the budget.
  • Actively participate in and assist with camp fundraisers and large area events.
  • Expected to raise some personal support with training and a fundraising coach provided by full-time staff. Support raised would provide opportunity to increase hours/salary, as well as help cover some program expenses.

Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

  • Sees volunteer leaders as a “small group” (or Campaigners group) of their own.
  • Pursue kids. Eventually be actively engaged with two to three kids in direct ministry weekly.
  • Lead by example with direct ministry and take other leaders with you.
  • Be the point person for “events” (does not need to be in charge of all things).

Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.

Administrative Tasks

  • Take notes and send out recaps to the area team when needed.
  • In charge of communicating all camp-related items to the team.
  • Help with an area newsletter, donor mailings, event prep as needed.

Ministry Resources

  • Equipment for games, speakers or costumes (available in the Young Life office).
  • Books or Bible study resources (available in the Young Life office and online [YL Access]).
Qualifications:

  • Committed to cultural intelligence, inclusion, diversity and equity.
  • Deep love for Jesus and a desire to grow and be challenged in his or her faith.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • A servant’s heart for others (kids, leaders, families, etc.).
  • Willingness to commit to two to three years in the area to grow ministry and network across the community.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • A self-starter with a strong desire to see kids and leaders be all that God made them to be.
  • A team player who likes to have fun!
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Willingness to raise personal financial support.

*This job could develop into more hours depending on personal support.*
