What is the Job all About?

• The Microbiology Technician will work closely with Sr. Scientist to support Biolog’s R&D division by performing routine lab tasks that are essential to product development, such as sample preparation for ID and phenotyping, media preparation and sterilization.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Routine maintenance, cleaning, and record-keeping of laboratory equipment and facility.
• Follows all safety requirements for laboratory operation and use and disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste.
• Keeping accurate records of experiments and observations.
• Restock lab supplies as needed.
• Prepares all laboratory supplies including media preparation and autoclaving, cleaning of tools and equipment, stocking laboratory and warehouse with consumables; documents receipt of goods and notifies Laboratory Management of supply needs and resource status.
• Performs standard microbiology procedures including handling, growth, and purification of cultures. Previous experience of culturing anaerobes is preferred but not required.
• Maintains open communication with Laboratory Staff and Management.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.
• Performs microbial ID and phenotyping procedures including growing bacteria, preparing ID and phenotyping assays, and running associated equipment.
• Performs daily housekeeping, weekly and monthly cleaning.

Requirements

• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of MS Office products
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Willing to learn.
• A bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, or a related field with 0-2 years of professional lab experience
• Good understanding of microbiology, lab techniques, and safety procedures.
