POSITION SUMMARY
Performs clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinical setting. This includes accurately and thoroughly documenting medical visits as they are performed by the physician.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education or Formal Training
Bachelor’s degree, or currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a healthcare related field preferred.
Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)
- Medical Scribe Certification, preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant, preferred.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of the physical exam process.
- Ability to record physical exam details.
- Computer proficiency and ability to accurately record information.
- Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
- Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
- Willingness to adhere to all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, managers, and peers.
Experience
No prior scribe experience required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accompanies physician into the patient examination room to transcribe patient’s history and physical exam, and the physician’s encounter with the patient.
- Transcribes all diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
- Documents all procedure performed by the physician.
