Position Summary


The Medical Records Specialist works to ensure all patient health information generated from outside the EPIC system is captured, organized, and placed into the Asante Physician Partner's (APP) EPIC system in an efficient and accurate manner to support the delivery of high-quality medical care. This involves performing a variety of functions to include: abstracting medical records from non-EPIC systems, abstracting paper charts received from outside of APP, scanning/indexing of outside records, and providing assistance to APP support staff related to the chart-prep function. In this role, the Medical Records Specialist also develops and coordinates process and quality control standards related to the chart abstraction, chart prep and release of information functions; coordinates work-in-process systems related to chart abstraction and chart prep; and regularly interfaces with APP physicians, practice managers, clinical staff and administrative staff to address quality and process improvement related to chart abstraction, chart prep, and release of information.


Qualifications


Education


  • Associates degree in Health Information Management or Computer Science or related field, preferred
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required


Experience


  • Previous medical records specialist or similar experience providing knowledge of clinic operations and Microsoft applications, specifically Excel and Word is required


Licensure/Certifications


  • RHIT: Registered Health Information Technician, preferred
