Mechanical Engineer I, Operations Engineering

Positions Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer I, Operations Engineering you will be our in-house source of technical expertise on the design, inspection, and repair of various major wind turbine mechanical components. This position is located in our Chicago (downtown), IL headquarters.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and advise end-of-warranty inspection results at wind farms
  • Advise site personnel on run/don’t run disposition for major damages
  • Track blade damage by type and manufacturer, develop failure statistics, identify serial issues, and create solutions to address problems.
  • Evaluate and implement process and procedural improvements to prepare company for growth
  • Lead blade maintenance planning and tactical implementation for sites within engineer’s scope of Invenergy’s wind operating fleet
  • Pilot new blade technologies working with commercial and asset management to implement across the fleet
  • Some travel (< 25%) and moderate field work may be required
  • Visit sites to conduct special inspections, failure investigations, or provide training
  • Work with a large network of vendors to ensure required repairs are made to damaged blades in a timely manner.

Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and able to quickly acclimate to new software.
  • Strong interest and understanding of mechanical systems.
  • 0 to 2 year’s work experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline.
  • Some travel (< 25%) and moderate field work.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with fiber-reinforced composite analysis
  • Experience with wind turbines, fiber-reinforced composites, equipment reliability, or work management programs
  • Aerospace or wing design/structure experience
