Scismic is supporting the growth of a clinical-stage company in Brooklyn, NY that develops revolutionary tissue engineered products for skeletal repair.
We are seeking a mechanical design engineer to join our early-stage company to support the clinical translation of innovative regenerative stem cell therapies. You will assist in the manufacture of medical products per cGMP protocols. The engineer will also use CAD software to design new prototypes and work hands-on to manufacture and test the devices. The engineer will interact regularly with the cell, cartilage, and quality teams while reporting to the engineering manager.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Work independently to perform testing and troubleshooting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Operate machinery such as CNCs, 3D printers, lathe, and laser cutter to manufacture bone or other components.
- Design R&D experiments, interpret data, and generate technical reports.
- Conduct flow simulations and pump calibration for bioreactor culture.
- Create detailed 3D models and machine instructions using SolidWorks and Mastercam.
- Revise designs, select components, and assemble prototypes with proper documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Has experience with data analysis software and technical writing.
- BS in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related fields with 2-5 years of relevant work experience OR
- Can operate independently, collaborate in a team, and easily adapt to rapidly changing project plans or timelines.
- Understands engineering design process, risk management, and good documentation practices.
- MS with 0-3 years of relevant work experience.
- Has experience with SolidWorks 3D design and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations.
- Familiar with machine shop tool use and safety.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient operating Mastercam and CNC machinery.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and design controls for medical device development.
- Experience designing and assembling electro-mechanical devices.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- No relocation assistance is provided for this position.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Ability to lift 25lbs or more on a regular basis.
Employment Status
- Full-time; Exempt.

- $80K - $90K/yearly
