Job Description
ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Agile Projects and Operation
POSITION REPORTS TO: Bonnie Gray
APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 5, 2023 at 11:59 PM E
LOCATION: Flexible
SALARY:
Tier A: $93,300 - $134,800
Tier B: $101,700 - $146,900
Tier C: $110,100 - $159,100
What You’ll Do
This role supports all of the Office of Equity and Belonging sub-teams as well as agile projects. The leader in this role will have a keen eye and experience for stellar operational support, including in-person and virtual experiences. In this role, you will be a utility player who can apply a variety of skills to various initiatives in a highly effective manner.
You demonstrate experience with supporting a variety of constituency groups with a focus on supporting executive teams, board members, team leaders, community members, and students. You pay close attention to details and notice the small details that will help others be able to maximize the efficacy of OEB experiences, whether it is sending out reminders and information ahead of a call or conducting focus groups to gather additional perspectives on a team project. Given the diversity of our team’s projects, you will bring both creativity and operations expertise to many different aspects of culture and communications work. You balance attention to technical detail with an adaptive approach to anticipating and solving problems. You have a specific focus on supporting the culture of the Office of Equity & Belonging (OEB) team, staff events, and staff engagement.
You embrace a learning orientation that fosters curiosity, self-reflection, and examination and listen deeply. You center racial equity in your work of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness by building, deepening, and acting from an understanding of the central role of systemic racism and the devastating role of anti-Blackness as a core feature of systemic racism in America. The goal is to provide exceptional executive-level support to the Chief of Equity and Belonging, support the OEB team and all TFA staff engagements, and org-wide communication alongside OEB teammates.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
AGILE PROJECTS: Provide flexible project-based support based on the top priorities at any given moment. This includes providing direct service to OEB sub-teams and portfolio teams on specific projects (30%)
ALIGNMENT & OPERATIONS: Co-manage the “day-to-day” OEB operations and team culture with VP EBI. Executes operations across the team, in-person and virtually, for various constituency groups, including executive staff. (25%)
CREATE: Create resources and supports with a focus on digital products (i.e., asynchronous modules) to reinforce racial equity, belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion (REB/DEIA). May serve as a partner to teams to problem-solve challenges locally alongside sub-team. (20%)
LEAD: Partner, facilitate and execute virtual and in-person experiences for different stakeholders, which may include support of REB/DEI councils to sub-team priorities or regional work. (10%)
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT & COMMUNICATIONS: Gathers data, research, and reports on OEB progress to inform strategy development and to share with different stakeholder groups. (10%)
Other duties as assigned (i.e., Selection interviews) (5%)
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
While the agility responsibilities endure the rarity of identical weeks, there are aspects of predictable elements of this work. You will meet with the VP, EBI, and Chief of Equity and Belonging to align on key team-level priorities. You will have a pulse on upcoming OEB events and happenings and share it with relevant staff members as well as the operations team to ensure we are on track. Similarly, you will help the OEB to stay abreast of major events across the enterprise to help us avoid unnecessary conflicts and to support the integration of efforts. You will engage with workgroups as the project lead or member to advance on REB/DEI workstream; tasks may include conducting research on a specific topic and presenting to the workgroup or gathering perspectives from staff members on a specific topic and synthesizing the learnings. You may also be designing and coordinating for upcoming team events.
Your Experience
Min Qualifications
  • At least 2 years cultivating and developing team culture, systems and routines both virtually and in-person (hybrid)
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in-person and virtual gatherings/conferences including setting up spaces, planning, facilitation and execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing others with effective development, coaching, and mentoring in areas related to Racial Equity, Belonging (REB), Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable solutions
  • Experience with delivering messages through appropriate communication channels
  • Strong operational systems and tools to manage time and maximize communication flow across the team and through staff communications
  • A minimum of 2 years program/project management experience
  • Inspired and motivated a team to perform against measurable goals in transitional and transformation contexts
  • 2-3 years of supporting an Executive/Senior leader (i.e. Chief of Staff, Operations lead, Executive Assistant)
BONUS (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Demonstration of leadership skills managing ambiguity and conflict resolution, demonstrating good judgment.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with others in challenging situations
  • Ability to make timely decisions and demonstrate good judgment
  • Desire to constantly improve and learn from past experiences
  • Experience with leading Racial Equity, Belonging (REB) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility efforts (DEIA) (i.e ERGs, REB/DEI Champion or Lead)
  • Strong facilitation and design of both in-person and virtual experiences
YOUR FUTURE TEAM
The Office of Equity and Belonging aims to enable TFA’s efforts to achieve the vision, mission, and 2030 goal by centering racial equity, belonging, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. As a capability center, OEB will use the integration of practice and accountability to students and communities to co-create the organizational conditions for all constituents to have lived experiences of equity and belonging and to operate in ways that contribute to others having lived experiences of equity and belonging.
The Managing Director, Agile Projects and Operations will sit on the Equity and Belonging Integration team, which will focus on system integration of REB/DEIA in experiences, policies, practices, and metrics and provide regular reporting on our work to inform current and future strategies.
