Job Description
Major Functions

The County of Volusia is seeking a Full Time - Marketing Specialist for the Aviation and Economic Resources Division. This position is located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Responsible, professional work researching, developing, and implementing county-wide marketing and economic development programs for Volusia County Government.

Illustrative Duties

(NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.)

  • Marketing analytics analysis and reporting
  • Website Administration
  • Social Media Campaign Oversight
  • Works with internal and external agencies such as the city economic development strategic partners, chambers, educational institutions, tourism, incubators, and business development organizations to develop cooperative marketing strategies.
  • Formulates and implements public relations programs and projects.
  • Establishes research methodology and designs format for data gathering such as surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaires. Examines and analyzes statistical data to determine trends, opinions, etc.
  • Creates, coordinates, and/or produces media materials for programs and special events/projects such as brochures, pamphlets, news releases, posters, etc.
  • Coordinate quarterly economic development public meetings – (Q Breakfast)
  • Develops strategies to obtain corporate sponsorships and endorsements.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Maintains, researches and updates economic development statistics, demographics data and trends
  • Represents the division at promotional events.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or related field, and two (2) years of experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, or related field.


Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Develop communication campaigns
  • Ability to influence clients and sponsors.
  • Ability to develop marketing and public relations strategies.
  • Crisis communication experience.
  • Develop collateral materials including brochures, advertisements, publications, etc.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and methodology of survey collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of skills and responsibilities of a print or television news reporter – writing, editing, and on-camera talent. Photography and videography experience is a plus.
  • Develop marketing plans.
  • Develop place advertising.
  • Knowledge of skills and responsibilities of a public relations practitioner.
  • Oversaw client accounts.
  • Public presentations.
  • Knowledge of strategic market-oriented planning processes.
  • Knowledge of skills and responsibilities of a public information office preferred.
  • Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends and opinions.

ADA REQUIREMENTS

Physical Demands:
Ability to see, hear, talk, and have finger dexterity. Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull 15 pounds (e.g. tables, chairs, pop-up tents), bend, reach, and kneel. Visual acuity (e.g. depth perception, peripheral vision) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.
Environmental Demands: Primarily inside work with occasional exposure to heat, wind, cold, and/or humidity.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical and professional manuals and journals; reports, summaries, memos and letters. Ability to perform advanced mathematical functions including statistics and ratios. Analytical ability to devise programs, plans and ideas from statistical information. Ability to speak publicly and extemporaneous; conversant in theories and techniques of discipline. Ability to write pamphlets, brochures, media materials.
