The Department of Information Science provides and supports resources, research, and service for education and leadership to the information science community and prepares information professionals of the highest quality to serve dynamic roles in the state, the nation, and the world.
Position Overview
This position requires marketing and recruiting skills and knowledge, including designing, writing, and editing marketing materials, press releases, websites, ads, social media, etc. Duties include: communications, email correspondence, managing inventory, and researching, compiling, analyzing and reporting data. Also includes maintaining a calendar of events, and working with faculty to determine their needs and requirements for marketing and promotion of LIS programs. Position requires some travel to promote programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to visually inspect products in multiple formats and assess and improve.
  • Considerable knowledge of Associated Press style.
  • Thorough understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing, graphic design and media tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing and graphic design software.
  • Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines.

Job Duties
o
Pursues and maintains knowledge of UNT policy regarding marketing & communications. Attends all related training, properly applies policy in daily tasks, and ensures all marketing material follows URCM guidelines. Research industry trends, and maintain knowledge of new marketing tools and ideas. Conduct research and make applicable suggestions for program development.
o
Coordinate recruitment and alumni events for IS programs, including physical arrangements, promotions, etc. Assists with handling arrangements for conferences, including conference/event registrations, and other professional association meetings as assigned. Attend various conferences and events, as well as, set up and manage the exhibit booth, recruit students, break down booth and arrange for return shipping. Evaluate outcomes of various events, conferences and off-campus programs.

Assist with planning, managing, and supervising physical, financial, and publication arrangements for conferences, off-campus programs and events. Create various invitations for events in a timely manner, effectively promote and help manage events. Prepare materials for shipping for conferences, information sessions and various events. Set up and work events. Follow up with faculty to ensure their needs are met for conferences/events, and their individual programs.
o
Build and maintain network of on-campus and off-campus contacts to make arrangements for conferences, ads, and program material. Maintain list of contact information for all off-campus contacts (phone numbers, email addresses, etc.).
o
Develop, edit, and update marketing materials: press releases, promotional flyers, event invitations, and various print and digital ads, etc.
o
Correspond with college staff, faculty, and students to acquire newsworthy items along with interviewing and gathering photos for news stories. Assists with updating LIS website and posting news and events. Provide suggestions for improvement. Update and edit events and news for website in a timely manner. Write, develop, and publish creative stories for the website and social media. Develop content and monitor activity on social media outlets.
o
Work with faculty and the Chair to develop an on-going strategic plan for marketing.
o
Manage inventory and distribution of recruiting materials. Maintain inventory for marketing materials, including give-a-ways. Ensure an accurate count of marketing material and give-a-ways, and inform supervisor in a timely manner when items need to be reordered.
