JOB SUMMARY
The ME Manager is the “site technology leader” of Jabil’s manufacturing processes and systems, which is designed to deliver superior performance and operational efficiency. The ME Manager supports Operation’s business development effort with current and potential customers, and development / implementation of both site a global ME strategies. Responsible for the establishment of optimal manufacturing methods and processes for the organization’s production lines. Lead and motivate a group of Engineers and Technicians whose primary responsibility is to define and implement complete manufacturing processes that follow medical device manufacturing standards. Provides ongoing review of the effective utilization of equipment, production methods, equipment layout, personnel, and material flow. Provide exceptional support to customers, team members, and shareholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment and Retention:
  • Recruit, interview and hire Manufacturing, Process, Industrial and Project Engineers, as well as Manufacturing and Equipment Support technicians.
  • Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors that can be improved; make improvements.
  • Document position requirements and expectations. Coach engineers and technicians in the interviewing/hiring process.
Employee and Team Development:
  • Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.
  • Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Create and manage succession plans for engineering employees.
  • Coach and mentor Manufacturing Engineering staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.
Performance Management:
  • Solicit ongoing feedback from Operations Manager (OM), Business Unit Manager (BUM), peers and team member on team member’s contribution to the Workcell team. Provide coaching and counseling to team member based on feedback.
  • Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments.
  • Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.
  • Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).
  • Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time.
  • Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused in times of crises.
  • Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently in area of responsibility.
Communication
  • Ask questions; encourage input from team members
  • Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.
  • Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.
  • Provide communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the department.

FUNCTIONAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Strategy and Direction:
  • Know and understand Corporate, Campus and Global PE, ME & ME tactical and strategic direction.
  • Provide regular updates to BUM and Operations Manager on the execution of the strategy.
  • Develop an understanding of the Workcell business strategy as it pertains to Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Define, develop and implement a Manufacturing Engineering strategy which contributes to the campus strategic directions.
  • Manage technical support globally to sustain Corporate Intranet Site worldwide growth strategy as needed.
Cost Management:
  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).
  • Provide feedback to BUM, OM, and Finance Manager on cost and cost trends.
  • Utilize tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value.
Forecast Development and Accuracy:
  • Anticipate future headcount requirements.
  • Compare forward forecast results to historical actual results for trend assessment and analysis.
  • Prepare timely forecasts for the department.
TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Improve the current documentation and engineering systems.
  • Periodically “get down in the trenches” to rehabilitate troubled production areas or to help during product launch. Foster a “back to basics” mentality during these times. Lead by example; “walk the talk.”
  • Assure that procedures and work instructions are efficient and not redundant.
  • Establish new measurement systems if/where possible.
  • Assess the adequacy of data gathering methods utilized by the operation.
  • Lead equipment evaluations. Assure measurement criteria meet all Jabil site requirements worldwide.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service; anticipate, meet, and exceed expectations by solving problems quickly and effectively; making customer issues a priority.
  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.
  • Verify reconfiguration requirements and monitor line moves.
  • Prepare quotes for new and potential customers.
  • Utilize Jabil’s Advanced Engineering group to ensure useful support to Jabil Maple Grove.
  • Exchange knowledge and information with other Jabil facilities to ensure best practices are shared throughout the Jabil organization.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing in a consistent, structured manner throughout the campus.
  • Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Identify and implement new practices and processes that are “best in field.”
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
  • Forecast future requirements and technical trends to drive gear suppliers in their technology roadmap.
  • Follow medical device manufacturing standards (e.g. – strictly follow work instructions & procedures, have proper documentation and training in place, work hand in hand with the Quality dept on changes affecting the production floor, etc.)
  • Ensure 100% adherence to all company policies and procedures (i.e. Health and Safety, Quality).
  • Assure that procedures and work instructions are efficient and not redundant.
  • Explore and monitor new processes and procedures to support customer’s expanding requirements on cutting edge technology and product densification.
  • Own sustaining engineering and provide high levels of support on equipment repair issues (quickly respond and address root causes).
  • Establish new measurement systems if/where possible.
  • Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is handled appropriately.
  • Assist Project and Design Engineers with Design for Manufacturability issues.
  • Support customer new product introductions.
  • Drive continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management.
  • Ensure that everything works smoothly to guarantee efficient and high quality processes that translate into high customer satisfaction and revenues for Jabil.
EDUCATION AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Proven track record in communication, leadership, business analysis, process development, administration, and change management.
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering degree
  • Extensive knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering philosophies and processes.
  • At least 7 years of related experience in the medical device manufacturing industry required
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
