The Manager, R&D Program Finance Close & Consolidations will be responsible for overall close and consolidations for all TAs within R&D Program Finance and will also lead financial analysis and support of R&D Portfolio Consolidations team. This role reports to the Sr Director, R&D Program Finance and will be part of the R&D FP&A team. Success in this role will require the ability to cultivate effective business partnerships across Finance, understand key drivers, drive process improvements, and develop an executive level story. The Finance Manager will be viewed as a key partner and “go to person” for financial analysis, insight, and counsel.


Responsibilities Include


Essential Duties & Job Functions:


  • Play a key role in ERP implementation for the R&D Finance team to optimize close, reporting and forecast processes.
  • Lead the R&D Program Finance team’s budget and forecast cycles by establishing process timelines, actions and tools, and effectively communicating and driving accountability for expectations with teammates and leadership. Proactively driving process efficiencies and standardization across R&D Program Finance team.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the FP&A team to manage the annual planning calendar.
  • Build strong business partnerships through regular meetings and close collaboration.
  • Independently manage multiple tasks in a deadline driven environment with a high level of precision.
  • Work with Finance and Accounting Teams to oversee the financial close. This includes expense accruals, and budget vs. actual variance analysis.
  • Lead R&D Program Finance consolidations with month/quarter close narrative and presentation. Consolidate Program Finance results and prepare close packages and quarterly finance review for Finance leadership.
  • Proactively implement process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our reporting and analysis.
  • Enable and support development of the forecasts and annual budget for Program Finance TAs. Collaborate with other Finance functions in the development, review and approval of key planning assumptions. Present to senior level business partners.
  • Champion report automation to better support the business.
  • Develop a strong understanding of all key performance drivers & issues relating to budget, actual results & forecast updates. Incorporate R&D Clinical Finance understanding into quantitative and qualitative analysis of the business' financial results including variances. Ensure key issues, risks, and business drivers are understood and highlighted.

Knowledge, Experience, & Skills


The preferred candidate will possess:


  • A minimum of 6+ years of experience with a BA/BS, or a minimum of 4 years of experience with an MBA, having held positions of increasing scope and responsibility.
  • Prior experience in biotech or pharma is a plus, but not necessary.
  • In-depth proficiency in aspects of accounting and finance and knowledge of US GAAP is required.
  • Consolidations experience strongly preferred.
  • A BS or BA is required, and an MBA or CPA is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge Business Intelligence, Planning and ERP systems is preferred (Working knowledge of Hyperion, Oracle, SAP preferred).
  • Experience in high-growth, multi-national organization a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong communications and presentations skills are required
  • Able to apply knowledge to complex problem solving.


The salary range for this position is: $129,540.00 - $167,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
