Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:


Provides Operational Excellence leadership and expertise to clinical and administrative staff to achieve successful operational and business performance improvement and supports the delivery of high quality and safe patient-centric care. Ownership and management of one key operational function within the Operational Excellence department, such as, Process Improvement Training, Change Management, Lean Daily Management, Project Management System, Operations Workload Management System (SIM), Consultative Services, OpEx Community of Practice, OpEx Analytics, etc. Partners with various departments across Fresenius Medical Care to provide expertise in operational excellence leadership to a broad range of large size projects of high complexity or programs of mid complexity for divisions or enterprise-wide improvement and optimization initiatives. Serves as subject matter expert and leader in the principles and tools of both business and technical work under the Operational Excellence organization to achieve exceptional levels of operational and clinical outcomes. Facilitates teams that will identify, design, and implement solutions using sound project / program management, engineering principles, and/or change management principles. Devotes time developing skills within the Operational Excellence Team and across the organization.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages the operations of one OpEx functional areas and will lead coordination of activities with direct responsibility for results.

• Functions as an individual contributor with significant project/process responsibilities. Program or project responsibility generally within the function. Serving as the Project Manager, Process Engineer, Change Management or Data Analyst expert.

• Works on issues of diverse scope to deliver improvements and transformational change. Project scope may require analysis of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.

• Works as part of a team to deliver improvements and transformational change. Assembles and directs cross functional/cross site project team(s), including information compilation and information flow. • Bridge knowledge gaps in projects by requesting and managing / developing additionally required capabilities & resources. • Coordinate & communicate with all levels of senior management, appropriate project teams and process owners to ensure projects are integrated with the business strategy, other transformational business projects.

• Technically proficient in Operational Excellence industry practice and business principles – Project/Program Management, Continuous Improvement, Change Management, or Data Analytics, while mastering skills in at least one of the key principles

• Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers.

• Participates and presents at meetings with internal and external representatives. Often leading a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

• Responsible for curriculum and training development, education instruction, and facilitation of workshops to support operational excellence organizational learning generally within the functions managed. May assist in the development of team members to deliver and implement transformational change and improvements. May provide leadership, coaching and development plans for assigned direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce, partnering with Human Resources on employee matters.

• May act as an advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.

• May be responsible for hiring, coaching, and counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Some travel between locations primarily during the business day, although occasional out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.


SUPERVISION:

• May or may not supervise exempt staff.


EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s Degree – Business Management, Industrial Engineering, Technical or Healthcare specialization preferred

• Master’s Degree preferred or in progress.

1 of the following certifications required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hiring.

• Program or Project Management certification

• Lean Bronze/Silver certification

• Six Sigma Black Belt certification

• Change Management certification


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• 5 – 8 years’ of operational excellence, continuous improvement, and healthcare related experience or an equivalent

combination of education and experience.

• 3+ years’ project/program management, continuous improvement or change management experience required.

• Ability to interact with senior management on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.

• Ability to manage cross functional program and project teams.

• Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships and leverage existing stakeholder relationships within organizations.

• Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.

• Strong analytical skills and ability to construct business case analysis.

• Ability to translate business requirements into work breakdown structures and realization plans.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent planning, organization, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

• Superb training and facilitation skills and ability to influence and motivate teams.

• Ability to present to internal executive leadership and external groups outside the organization.

• Excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
