As a reflection of our growth, we have an opportunity to join the team as an Instructional Design Manager.


The Instructional Design Manager is an important part of the Learning and Development team and is accountable for designing and developing highly effective and instructionally sound learning solutions and experiences across a wide variety of audiences, needs, subject matters and modalities. This role also provides instructional design consultation and expertise to other members of the L&D team on solutions developed by others to improve their effectiveness. Our Learning & Development team inspires and enables people to learn new skills and behaviors, adopt new approaches and grow professionally and personally. The Design Manager is a key contributor to delivering world class learning experiences. This role will bring to life our values and is a role model of our cultural pillars each day through everything they do. The Chapter Design Team operates like an internal consultancy, flexing between projects, work types, partners, and audiences frequently. This person is a self-starter and can execute under minimal supervision. This person is a strong collaborator and works well with others. This person must be an exceptional communicator and writer; able to seek new ways of doing things, open to new ways of thinking, and demonstrate agility in ambiguous and frequently changing situations. This role will partner closely with the Senior Manager, Learning and Development and other leaders in L&D to understand the most important design needs to maximize their expertise and impact.


Essential Responsibilities

• Design world class, instructionally sound learning solutions and experiences

• Collaborate with other members of L&D to understand the intent of the learning and to improve the overall learner’s experience

• Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and Program Managers to develop high-quality, needs-based, accessible, and scalable learning solutions

• Review materials to confirm instructional soundness and identify any learning gaps. Use adult learning and human performance improvement theories to create effective learning solutions

• Conduct job, task and/or role analysis to determine the best way to leverage learning for performance

• Create full scale course designs as well as select sections of courses as needed, from storyboarding to designing activities to overall design reviews

• Manage assigned projects through the instructional design process

• Develop and/or improve content using a variety of modalities, including video, simulation, in-person learning, live virtual learning, and web-based

• Create learning solutions with strong visual appeal

• Create assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of learning interventions using key performance metrics

• Effectively communicate design and development strategies to stakeholders at multiple levels, who may be unfamiliar with deep L&D vernacular and theories

• Support team toward achieving department goals and priorities

• Facilitate Train the Trainer sessions and provide backup facilitation capacity as needed by the L&D team


Requirements/Qualifications

• Education level: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

• 5+ years of experience in instructional design roles in corporate L&D, education, or professional settings

• Strong understanding of adult learning theory and principles, demonstrated application of instructional design and human performance improvement principles

• Proven design experience across learning modalities (ILT, eLearning, Virtual, Performance Support, Mobile, Social)

• Strong proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom and high learning agility for new and emerging technologies

• Experience with HTML, Captivate, Articulate or comparable software development tools

• Experience with Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) or comparable tools

• Graphic design or visual design skills preferred

• Experience with LMS preferred

• Strong project management skills, able to organize and execute tasks and activities with urgency, and deliver on time and within budget

• Flexibility and agility to be proactive in a fast paced, ever-changing environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent collaboration skills: ability to work with multiple internal and external customers and subject matter experts

• Experience influencing stakeholders across a variety of functions and levels

• Strong composure and ability to stay present under stress, comfortable with ambiguity

• Team player, highly motivated self-starter even under stressful conditions

• Influence and advocate for the best learner experience

• Advocate for personal development that maintains field relevance and future interests and applications

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
