The Manager, Advanced Research and RD Innovation will be focusing on water heating systems and applications, responsible for development and management of the technology and innovation portfolio of Rheem. The position leads advanced research, simulations, and innovation teams in the process of technology development, demonstrating new or unproven technologies, planning the application of existing technology to new or different uses, or the combination of existing and proven technology to achieve business goals. Serving as the Technology Leader of the organization, this position ensures effective use of department’s dedicated budget to fuel its operations in Computer Modeling & Advanced Technology Research, University Research Partnerships, RheemLabs Innovation Studio, fast prototyping, modeling, and development testing activities, outside engineering firms, and in-house and outsourced laboratories. The role also entails leading the Innovation Program of Rheem where world class Open Innovation Methodologies such as Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile Technology Development are applied and embedded into Rheem culture.
This position will serve our Water Heater Division, located in Roswell, GA.
What You’ll Do
  • Establish and maintain liaison with industry associations, outreach to external research laboratories and universities, regulatory agencies, and outside vendors in order to engage and remain abreast of technical advancements within relevant industries.
  • Manage execution and communication of Agile Technology Development Processes, Design and Prototype Build Sprints to advance company learnings and strategic planning.

  • Lead Ecosystem Partnerships with leading Global Startup Accelerators and Incubators and translate opportunities for business commercialization consideration. Drive direction in preparation of Dealflows with Rheem Leadership and organize funding Proof of Concepts.
  • Disseminate discoveries and/or learnings, periodically host training sessions and practicums among the company engineering community for the advancement of awareness and knowledge sharing.
  • Management of technology development roadmap, alignment of plans and applied research to company strategic initiatives, progression of feasibility assessments and readiness and the translation of technologies into the company stage gate development process.
  • Periodically report and advise on progress of technology and innovation initiatives, within the Innovation Steering Committee and the like, before Executive Leadership and other key stakeholders
  • Direct team of research engineers in the exploration of technology and innovation, supervise the operations of RheemLabs design studio, and oversee the functions of the engineering simulations team.
  • Facilitate Global Patent Workshop Events and Manage IP Portfolio processing with Rheem Legal to ensure timely protection of company assets.
Job Qualifications
What You Need
  • Must have a proven track record project related success and exhibiting innovative curiosity in pursuit of continual product development improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to serve as a mentor and coach to the engineering staff, as well as, a “business partner”
  • Deep engineering foundation and applied scientific depth in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, strengths of materials, structural analysis, vapor compression, material sciences, and CAE
  • Strong team building skills with excellent communications skills.
  • Exhibit people skills that inspires trust and confidence in others who will then readily follow in their insights and directives.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, resources management and time management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering
  • 8-10 years of related managerial experience
  • Visionary, with energy and drive to succeed.
  • Experience in design and manufacturing of commercial appliance with demonstrated ability to manage product development projects.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Demonstrated strength in critical thinking, good logic and reasoning skills to identify weaknesses and strengths of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
How To Stand Out
  • Progressive experience and leadership in the commercial development and application of water heating, air conditioning, pool heating, or commercial refrigeration systems.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
  • Past start up experience with proven entrepreneurship background
