Job Description


Job Summary


The Management Trainee Program will include 12 weeks of training at our training center in Atlanta, as well as at various field location(s) across our network. New hires that successfully complete the training will be assigned a final work location at the completion of the program. Location assignment will be based upon business needs at the time of placement.


The ideal candidate for this role will possess the ability to challenge the status quo to facilitate continuous improvement. This will require collaboration across roles and diverse groups, coupled with sharing feedback to promote best practices. The successful candidate will have leadership responsibility for the development of the hourly maintenance employees and managing all aspects of their performance. This is a key leadership role within an industrial environment that will provide direction to crews operating 24/7, so they will need to be willing to be on call and able to work rotating shifts.


Primary Activities And Responsibilities


  • Forecast staffing, scheduling of personnel, and material requirements to meet business objectives.
  • Align and prioritize daily operational strategies ensuring team members have the right capabilities needed to execute these strategies.
  • Works within a hybrid environment to include office and outside work
  • Complete all necessary training requirements to perform the tasks of either a Mechanical Supervisor in Car Operations, or as a Plant Supervisor in Locomotive Operations.
  • Provide coaching and leadership through the application of ONE-CSX values and beliefs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and transportation leaders coupled with training and development personnel to build capabilities within the organization.
  • Promote safety through facilitation of job briefs and lead the teams to think, act and always put safety first
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Lead, coach and mentor direct reports in the quality inspection, service and repair of defects and unsafe conditions for rail cars or locomotives within a train yard or on the line-of-road.
  • Ensure team members’ responsibilities and expectations are aligned with operations goals.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Less than 1 year of supervisory experience in Mechanical Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Business/Strategic Management, Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical), or Military experience
  • Associates Degree/2-year Degree


Equivalent Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 or more years of supervisory experience in Mechanical Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Business/Strategic Management, Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical), or Military experience


Preferred Qualifications


  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience in Mechanical Operations, Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Business/Strategic Management, Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical), or Military experience
  • Journeyman Mechanic
  • Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree


Knowledge And Skills


  • Leadership skills for coaching and counseling
  • Ability to manage conflict with respect and professionalism
  • Basic mechanical and electrical concepts
  • Industrial Engineering methodologies and concepts
  • Ability to manage competing and changing priorities
  • Microsoft Office Skills


Job Requirements


  • Different shifts as assigned in a 24 hour/7 days a week operation (incl working weekends)
  • Available to report to work with two-hour advance notice
  • Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor
  • Work flexible days/hours as dictated by business needs
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
