General Summary of Position
Performs diagnostic medical radiographic procedures and Mammography.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Certification by the ARRT required and
- Licensed by the State of Maryland; required and
- Associate's degree preferred
Experience
- Less than 1 year 6 months mammography and diagnostic experience required
Licenses and Certifications
- Completion of MedStar competency requirements required and
- Additional certification required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of anatomy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Verifies informed consent form and assists a licensed practitioner during interventional, needle localization, and biopsy procedures, employing sterile techniques.
- Performs QC as required by MQSA and ACR standards. Has knowledge of frequency of performance, limits of acceptability, and appropriate action to be taken when not acceptable.
- Performs patient follow-up as required by MQSA/ACR standards.
- Evaluates images for technical quality, provides hard copy records, and maintains image archives, ensuring proper identification.
- Maintains X-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventive maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis including any quality control required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Positions patients to best demonstrate area of interest, assumes responsibility for physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures, and provides immobilization assistance when necessary, ensuring safety.
- Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department. Completes necessary clerical and computer tasks as required.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams, in meetings and on committees.
- Performs radiographic examinations as assigned.
- Obtains patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures. Provides patient education and post-procedural instructions.
- Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
- Prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Provides instruction on and demonstrates equipment operation, filming, and other technical topics for staff and students. Conducts didactic for students as required.
- Transports patients to appropriate imaging area; prepares and maintains room. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
