Job Description

Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III

This position will be assigned to the Eastern Region Maintenance Yard and located in Raleigh, NC.
  • Position will provide technical supervision and monitor the work efforts of maintenance mechanics assigned to the field units within the area.
  • Position is responsible for implementing and maintaining a comprehensive preventive and routine maintenance program that provides maintenance at a level that will ensure that each facility/building is maintained properly with particular emphasis placed on safety and security of each facility.
  • The selected candidate for this position will be responsible for the usual management functions of planning, organizing, assigning and monitoring work efforts of the p.m. support group.
  • Work will involve the supervision of staff skilled in various building trades and management of an inmate labor force.
  • The primary purpose of the preventative maintenance support group supervisor is to provide preventive and routine corrective maintenance services to the Randall Complex, ODST-Apex Complex, Wake JDC and/or other local support buildings within assigned area.
  • This position will manage the performance of staff by insuring awareness of primary job responsibilities and have clear expectations as to how they are to perform their duties.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. We will not review resumes in lieu of Experience and Education listed on the application.
To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Documented experience in 3 or more of the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Welding, Electronics, Refrigeration
  • Documented experience with a preventive maintenance program
  • Documented supervisory experience
Management Preference:
Preference will be given to candidates with 10 or more years Maintenance supervisory experience.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities;
or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
