General Description of the Role


Responsible for managing the day to day packaging, distillery, warehouse and facility maintenance teams including the safety, quality and maintenance performance results across all departments. Responsible for the direct supervision and development of Packaging Technicians (electrical, mechanical or combined) and the Maintenance Supervisor, Planner and Spare Parts Coordinator in the maintenance department.


Mission/Objectives


The Maintenance Manager will manage the Maintenance activities and staff across the plant and drive proactive and efficient ways of working, drive continuous improvement to ensure optimum operations of the production facility, adhering to compliance with World Class Maintenance standards.


Key Responsibilities and Activities


  • Work with appropriate internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and/or to resolve maintenance risks when identified.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and all other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all machinery and equipment is managed in compliance with all SOP’s to target quality outcomes. Maintain compliance with all GMP, ISO and food safety standards related to all departments..
  • Establish maintenance quality and consistency checks and measures. Frequent audits of machinery and equipment to be conducted to ensure proper procedures are being followed and a quality product is being processed.
  • Consistently promote a safe working environment. This includes keeping all materials, supplies, tools and any other production related items in their place. Implement and sustain 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with other department employees to ensure daily production demands are met, achieve KPI’s and correct issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all records and maintenance related documentation are accurately completed and stored per retention policy.
  • Shall implement continuous improvement actions to close gaps of KPI’s or increase productivity as needed. Lead and/or participate in Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) to solve problems by attempting to identify and correct the root causes of events, as opposed to simply addressing their symptoms.
  • Provide information for budget preparation and adhere to annual departmental operating budget.
  • Comply with TTB and other regulatory requirements.
  • Immediately report and properly document any safety items related to you or any departmental employees. Safety items to be reported include but are not limited to bodily injury, near misses, potential dangers, spills and/or any other accidents.
  • Provide coaching, feedback and training as appropriate to develop team capabilities, improve performance and/or onboard new employees.
  • Maintain parts and storeroom within budgeted guidelines.
  • This position shall work with the Department Managers and team to resolve any critical quality issues as defined by the Plant Director or Quality Department.
  • Communicate and address any deficiencies that affect Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to Packaging employees, as appropriate.
  • Maintain equipment histories, repair records and resource library.
  • Ensure all employees are following prescribed PPE safety requirements for their assigned work area.
  • In coordination with the site EH&S Manager, ensure all operations comply with GMP practices and site safety rules.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the maintenance department including the training and development of the employees.
  • Drive the development of an empowered and self-directed maintenance department.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a Preventative Maintenance program to keep machinery and equipment operating at capacity and to prevent unscheduled down time. This includes maintaining all line drawings and other line documentation related to the maintenance department.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:


  • Education
    • BA/BS degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline preferred.
    • Electrician certification a plus
  • Experience
    • A minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in progressive maintenance/engineering positions, with packaging experience in the consumer packaged goods industry
    • Experience in beverage or beverage alcohol experience is a plus
    • Experience managing complex projects and budget adherence
    • Previous experience supervising within a union environment
  • Knowledge of relevant maintenance standards, regulations and legislation
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft office and other production maintenance monitoring and control systems & technology
  • A minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience in progressive maintenance/engineering positions, with packaging experience in the consumer packaged goods industry
  • Previous experience supervising within a union environment
