Machine Operator-Grinder Jobs

Job Functions

• Operate machinery, including polishing and grinding equipment, to grind any metal pieces to their prescribed specifications to ensure high-quality products
• Ensure grinding wheels are dressed according to specifications so that machines remain at peak working capability
• Keep all equipment running by inspecting and performing basic maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and Harlow Aerostructures
• Inspect machinery and workpieces to ensure that they remain compliant with specifications to reduce any malfunctions and associated loss of production
• Provide quality control by inspecting workpieces as they come out of the equipment and removing any defective pieces
• Stop any machines upon discovery of a problem and make the required adjustments as quickly as possible to minimize downtime

Skills Required

• Keen attention to detail
• Understand complex instructions and how schematics work and make sure items are designed and built correctly
• Problem Solving skills to understand why machines are not at peak performance, how to increase output and how to fix errors
• Mechanical and technical skills
• Possess good math skills
• Stamina, ability to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to read work orders, blueprints or drawings to determine set-up procedure, machine sequence, and dimensions of final product

Education And Experience Required

• Experience in CNC Grinding, preferred
• 3-5 years of experience as a grinder, or similar job
• Experience in honing, preferred
• Aviation experience, preferred
• High School Diploma, or equivalent
• Experience with Bridgeport/manual lathe, preferred
