Job Description

Under general supervision, this position performs skilled tasks with regard to the locks and electronic access control system and associated database for Campus Living. This position is a primary department interface to campus IT personnel for specialized help and network issues for the Lockshop. This position has primary responsibility for installation, configuration along with monitoring and maintenance of Campus Living security systems including the Electronic Campus Living Access Control System; which includes comprehensive, innovative, analytical, and technical consultant support, Locking Systems and Keystone 600 key system with the Sam box electronic key boxes to ensure security of all Campus Living facilities and occupants.
This position will perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, wiring, mounting, configuring, programming, testing, coordinating and training on this complex and custom system. In addition the work includes access control system integration with alarms, camera systems and fire alarm systems.
This position will operate a variety of testing and analytical equipment and maintain preventative maintenance inspections. Position applies technical knowledge and skill while modifying standard practice and procedures due to unusual situations. The position may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, and educational level and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes. This position will also perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Campus Living buildings, facilities and equipment; and performs related duties as required. This position will also serve as primary support to the Facilities Engineer and will be equipped to cover as needed. Provide planning and scheduling for short and long range projects including building rekeying and updating of door hardware. On a daily basis they will review and prioritizes shop work orders to ensure they are completed as assigned in the designated time intervals per Campus Living; Emergency – 24 hours, Urgent – 72 hours and Routine. This is a working position and applicant will be expected to assist as needed in support of all shop activities.
Performs access control system installation, maintenance, and repairs. Coordinate installations with site staff, departments, and various maintenance operation trades. Also serve in the inspections, diagnostic, analysis, repairs, and maintenance of locks and building security hardware. Install new and/or existing door hardware including locks as needed. Perform access control system programming and integration to include the activation and deactivation of key fobs. This staff person is responsible for the operation, maintenance and general support of physical and electronic key systems that are critical to the safety of ECU students, staff, and guests, and to state property. Operation of these systems with a 100% operational time (24 hours a day/365 day a year) requires advanced planning and a consistent preventive maintenance plan.
Survey, Configure, and Design new and existing door setups to determine the best scenario for Campus Living. This position requires continual consultation between clients, designers, engineers, and architects to assure proper security measures are met. Utilize specialty tools such as Wireless Spectrum Analysis (WYSPY), Wireless Programmer, Card Access System Survey Kit, Networking Infrastructure Tester, Volt meters, Engraver, Asset manager Labeling system, Code Max Key System, etc. in the analysis and evaluation for the access control system. Troubleshoots security system peripheral equipment to determine and remedy problems by installing, modifying, adjusting, repairing, or replacing parts and equipment as required.
Position required to process work order requests for additions and deletions of ECU Campus Living personnel, vendor, visitor credentials, privileges, the addition of security areas and capabilities to the security systems. Maintains close working relationship with Campus Living Professional Staff, Campus Police, and Facilities Operations personnel.
Position assists in the review of plans and specifications (door / hardware schedules) for the inclusion and appropriate application of the security systems in the addition, modification, and upgrade of new and existing facilities to assure adherence with ECU Campus Living specifications. Plan, schedule, and obtain proper materials to complete assigned corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, and hardware modifications using blueprints, manufactures equipment manuals, and work orders.
This position will respond to emergency calls for service on a call-out basis and works outside normal working hours as needed.

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Two years of experience related to the area of assignment and Microsoft Certified Professional credentials.
Associate’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the area of assignment.
