Responsibilities
This position is responsible for supporting all areas of the Open System environment including, but not limited to, systems administration, monitoring, hardware support, software installation, server build, scripting, security, documentation and customer service.
Service Delivery:
Coordinates with customers, vendors and service providers to resolve technical support issues. Administers multivendor open-source server and application software. Manages and maintains the Open Systems server environment. Manages and maintains multivendor Open Systems server operating systems, including troubleshooting and patch management. Considers security and customer needs as part of any solution.
Systems Maintenance:
Performs multivendor Open Systems hardware and software upgrades to improve system reliability, functionality, and manageability. Proactively monitors server and application performance for reliability, security and quality assurance. Maintains multivendor Open Systems hardware and software. Participates in identifying and performing system improvements, including tuning, hardware maintenance, and capacity management.
Internal Processes & Support:
Follows all Open Systems processes and procedures, including change management. Develops documentation for Open Systems support processes, systems, and procedures when requested. Provides multivendor Open Systems technical support assistance to internal and external customers. Monitors Service Desk ticketing system and responds appropriately based on published time expectations. Performs data gathering and analysis in support of billing, forecasting and planning.
Research and Planning:
Assists with researching, analyzing, recommending, designing, testing and implementing new Open Systems technologies and services to deliver cost effective and technically efficient solutions to internal and external customers. Assists leadership in establishing objectives, setting goals, and establishing unit priorities. Participates in evaluation of Open Systems product enhancements to ensure continuous product improvement. Assists leadership on technical and project- specific initiatives. Stays informed of current industry trends and practices. Advocates for industry best practices through the design and implementation process.
Participates in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC's policy. Professional development and training is defined as learning undertaken by the employee to maintain and advance their skills, knowledge and competencies, specifically as they relate and add value to the job and workplace.
NWRDC provides support for a wide range of state and local government, as well K- 20 organizations across the state of Florida. These organizations are dependent on NWRDC in order to accomplish their missions. This requires NWRDC to maintain services 24x7, even during times of crisis or emergency. As such, all NWRDC staff are considered essential staff for operations of the state of Florida.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and two years experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
- Experience administering Linux/UNIX based systems
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Ability to convey technical information to technical and non- technical users.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Ability to document existing and new processes.
- Knowledge of standard programming languages, concepts, practices, and procedures within the technology field.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Experience programming in Linux/UNIX based shell scripts
- Ability to obtain a Security Awareness Training Certificate
- Ability to utilize problem solving skills.
- Ability to utilize technical skills.
- Knowledge of applicable computer software and operating systems.
