Job Summary:
The Line Foreman position is a role that can perform both aerial and underground fiber installation work and splice fiber. They will supervise the crew performing installation and ensure that field team use proper safety equipment and always follow safety policies. The Foreman will be expected to undertake a lead role in the field for both aerial and underground fiber installation and repair work. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays and off hours.
What you will be doing:
- Provides supervision and leadership for the crew, vehicles, materials, and crews’ production.
- Keeps an up-to-date schedule for work and communicates that with management, staff, and our internal teams
- Works directly with management, Aerial, and Underground construction teams to direct the daily activities of the Field line teams to accomplish tasks in a safe, timely, and productive manner.
- Recognize priority issues and escalate accordingly.
- Openly share knowledge with the internal team
- Accurately completes weekly progress forms, project activity reports and all other documentation pertaining to work assignments.
- Ensures all required information about inquiries are recorded online and/or on a service card.
- Coordinate fiber placing and repair activities with internal departments, our fiber carriers, and customers.
- Follows OSHA, NESC, and Metronet safety regulations and precautions when completing assigned work.
- Ensures all site work is properly set up for a safe environment, cones, signage, flaggers, along with local safety consideration for traffic awareness requiring law enforcement.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Completes daily crew logs with accurate information for management in a timely manner.
- Climbs poles, ladders and will instruct new trainees.
- Operate aerial lift equipment using proper safety equipment and instruct new trainees.
What You Need For This Position:
- Windows based software skills (AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Access) preferred.
- Knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and related state and local codes
- Two or more years of CATV/Telco OSP maintenance experience
- Must have the ability to differential colors and strong visual acuity.
- Proficient in the use of OTDR’s and fiber optic cable splicing
- Ability to learn new processes and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret OSP maps and designs.
- Strong planning, organizational, and follow up skills.
- High school diploma or the equivalent is required. NCTI/SCTE certifications desirable
- 5+ years in line work in Telecomm industry or related field
- Good analytical and communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively with multiple department staffs.
