Description

The Legal Operations Manager will be a member of the CFG’s Corporate Legal Department, and primarily responsible for seeking opportunities to optimize the Legal team's internal processes, systems and tools. Working at the intersection of people, process and technology, you will ensure that the Corporate Legal Department is well set up to operate at scale and facilitate sharing of best practices across the different areas within the Legal Department. You will act as an internal consultant, working with your internal clients throughout the department to design and execute projects focused on continuously improving the department’s operations and service metrics. This position will report to the Head of Legal Operations of the Corporate Legal Department.

Primary responsibilities include

  • Providing guidance on new technology and systems in partnership with Legal IT, to improve team efficiency and effectiveness; manage design, rollout and training for new systems
  • Researching industry best practices to identifying additional areas where value can be added (e.g., enhancing/streamlining internal procedures, amending law firm agreements, reducing law firm panel size, revising billing guidelines, using artificial intelligence) and execute activities related to those areas
  • Acting as primary liaison with Strategic Sourcing to influence department strategy related to internal and external spend management and managing all aspects of selection, onboarding, dispute resolution and evaluation of vendors; support the Legal Department’s budgeting efforts
  • Identifying, tracking and reporting on key operational and substantive metrics for the group that will better inform decision-making, including matter and work product analyses
  • Developing work plans, gathering and synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses, developing final recommendations and implementing solutions
  • Defining, launching and driving strategic and operational initiatives (i.e. people, process, and systems) that will contribute to the efficient operation of the Legal Department

Qualifications

  • Ability to work both independently, as part of a team, and across teams, specifically IT, Finance, Sourcing, Account Payable, Finance, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data and create succinct presentations tailored to each audience
  • 6+ years of experience in management consulting and/or within law departments or law firms
  • Good attention to detail with excellent time management and multitasking abilities
  • Experience researching, purchasing and rolling out new services and technologies
  • Proactive approach to recognizing needs, solving problems, anticipating issues and developing solutions

Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree

Hours & Work Schedule

  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Travel: as needed between key Northeast offices
  • Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM
  • Work Location: Flexible, Johnston RI preferred
  • Days in the office: 3
