Responsibilities
The leadership annual gift officer will operate in a regional environment – specific to South Florida (including Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties). Using a multi-channel approach, the gift officer will focus on strategically expanding Florida State University’s philanthropic presence with the goal of significantly increasing the base of annual gifts through frontline fundraising, and will work closely with leadership giving groups – including alumni, friends, parents and families. The gift officer will be responsible for the discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects capable of making annual gifts of $1,000 - $30,000.
Annual Giving Solicitation
Discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects capable of making annual gifts of $5,000 and up.
Build and maintain a portfolio of up to 250 prospects and schedule meetings (in-person and virtual) with them and other discovery meetings.
Leverage face-to-face and virtual meetings, phone calls, emails, video, text, university events, and other contacts to build relationships and increase support from prospects.
Documentation/Planning
Scheduling prospect meetings, maintain a portfolio of leadership annual gift donors, and properly document in CRM all engagements.
Actively engage and build relationships with a portfolio of current donors and prospects.
Effectively move leadership annual donors through the pipeline, working with major gifts development teams, as appropriate.
Utilize dashboard tools, data analytics and partnership with Annual Giving team as well as other internal colleagues to identify donors for targeted outreach and achieve metrics.
Stewardship
Properly recognizing and engaging with donors for their philanthropy.
Provides concierge service to leadership annual giving donors.
Provides biographical updates and communication preferences based on outreach.
Stays up-to-date on activities across FSU.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to the duties of the position; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience in the same equal to eight years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
- Must be a creative thinker and a recognition of the impact of meaningful stewardship.
- A self-starter, comfortable working independently.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to facilitate strong communications with colleagues, donors, prospective donors and alumni, including letters, surveys and telephone solicitation programs.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
- Ability to maintain consistent and positive communication with the Dean and Foundation.
- A valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.
- Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in a related field with basic knowledge of personal solicitation methods may also be considered.
- Minimum of four years of professional experience in major gift development in a university setting.
- Professional demeanor with a teamwork approach, and a can-do, assertive philosophy.
- Experience with Black Baud’s CRM Platform or other fundraising information management systems/databases.
