Laboratory Assistant Supervisor Jobs

Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:

• Time stamp all requisition slips and conduct insurance checks.
• Maintain knowledge base in the laboratory information system.
• Assist with bone marrow and FNA procedures; stain specimens as required.
• Perform competency evaluations according to schedule, annual merit reviews, and assist with disciplinary actions if necessary.
• Label additional specimen containers following dissection for special studies as needed; perform or assist with the preparation and send-out of such specimens, following protocol.
• Examine requisition slips for special instructions or special studies.
• Complete first pass data entry for al l specimens.
• Receive specimens and verify appropriate patient identification.
• Maintain proficiency at all satellite locations.
• Maintain schedules Laboratory Assistants to ensure coverage during all hours of operation.
• Accession patient surgical specimens and record all required information and data accurately; conduct previous history correlation.
• Where necessary, be prepared to cover at the hospital/satellite locations, and perform the functions below:
  • Receive specimens and verify appropriate patient identification.
  • Clarify information with and serve as a resource for clients, patients, pathologist assistants, gross techs, and pathologists as needed.

• Clarify information with and serve as a resource for clients, patients, pathologist assistants, gross techs, and pathologists as needed.
• Train and direct Laboratory Assistants engaged in laboratory testing and processing techniques.

• Oversee and ensure documentation of all specimen requisitions triaged to outside reference labs.

• State Licensure, if applicable.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.

• Minimum of 5 years ' experience as a Laboratory Assistant and/or 2 years' experience as a Laboratory Assistant Supervisor.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test.
• Successful completion of annual education units per state licensure and/or ASCP guidelines.
• Some travel is required.
