Massachusetts Bay Brewing Company, Inc. (MBBC) has over 200 employees who understand that making great beer fun can be more challenging – and more rewarding - than it seems. We do things a bit differently here; different from other companies in general and different from most of our fellow brewers. Different in this case does not mean more complex or harder to understand. Because we also believe in being simple and straightforward. We have a very short list of ‘philosophies’ that underline how we run our business:
- Treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves.
- Make great beer and revel in it or as we say to the rest of the world: Love Beer. Love Life.
- We love the beer we brew, and we love drinking it together. We’re looking for people who share a commitment to excellence and a sense of humor to join our growing team.
- Work like an owner and think like a customer.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Mass. Bay Brewing Company (MBBC) is seeking a Lab Intern who will join the QA/QC department in performing the sampling and analyses of raw brewing materials, packaging materials, environmental samples, and in-process and finished beer to ensure that all products meet the specifications of MBBC.
The ideal candidate will split time during the intern focused on microbiological stability of wort, beer, and yeast cultures, including sample collection and plating, sterile filtration, and media preparation. Included, this person will focus on chemical and physical analysis of beer, wort, and raw materials, including measurement of pH, IBU, ABV, diacetyl, and other chemical components of beer.
MBBC will provide foundational instruction in the basics of brewing science and technique to cover the origin of various raw materials and their contribution to the final product, brewing practices and their influence on beer and recipe development.
Additional Intern responsibilities will include general lab clean-up/organization, data collection and entry, participation in sensory analysis, and project work as needed.
