Job Description

SUMMARY
The Woodbridge School District is a one facility PreK-6 elementary school employing approximately 165 staff members to serve and educate approximately 860 students. A caring, creative community, Beecher Road School models and inspires the joy of lifelong learning, embraces diversity, and celebrates the unique qualities of each person. Woodbridge is one of Connecticut’s premier towns, and Beecher Road School is the heart of the town. For the 2023-24 school year and beginning August 28, 2023, the District seeks a Kitchen Assistant for 20 hrs/wk 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM Monday through Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs kitchen requirements related to recycling of food preparation containers
  • Operates basic kitchen equipment in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Performs tasks required for the safe and proper preparation of nutritious meals and food items to students and staff, including washing and peeling vegetables
  • Operates cash register and point-of-sale system for purchase of meals and food items
  • Maintains kitchen work area and food preparation equipment and utensils in clean and orderly condition, including transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas
  • Ability to lift 25 to 30 lbs boxes

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCERequired:

  • Ability to understand and follow procedures related to food services, health, and sanitation
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to six (6) hours on cement quarry tile floors
  • Ability to collaborate with supervisor and other team members
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations, and to learn how to use a cash register
  • Full range of motion when working at a stand-height work table, dishwasher, and pot and pan sink, and when bending and reaching
  • Background, interest, and/or expertise in food services

SALARY AND BENEFITSThe position is a part-time, school-year position with the hours indicated in the "Summary" above. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the District and UE Local 222, CILU #80.   • Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person
