K–5 Curriculum Specialist

IM seeks to ensure that all students, particularly historically underserved students, and their teachers have access to aligned, grade-level, mathematics curriculum resources, and that teachers experience professional learning that leads to enduring mathematical learning for their students.
The Team: The IM curriculum development team works with the IM community, IM’s partners, and internal IM teams to update, maintain, and develop new curriculum products and features. We are a collaborative, curious, and caring group of math educators whose highest priority is setting up students and educators for success with a coherent, culturally-responsive, standards-aligned set of PreK-12 course curricular materials designed using a problem-based instructional model.
Position Summary
We are looking for a K–5 Curriculum Specialist who will collaborate with the IM curriculum team to create, maintain, and revise K–5 curriculum materials. The person in this role will work under the direction of the Director, K-5 Curriculum, to help update the K-5 materials for the next release and create new features or products aligned with the core curriculum. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with the IM K–5 Math™ curriculum and materials, as well as a vision for how our existing materials can be built upon to meet the needs of students and teachers.

Responsibilities
As a member of our curriculum team, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Review feedback on curriculum materials and use it to inform revision.
- Revise and improve IM K–5 Math™ and prepare an updated version.
- Improve existing curriculum components, such as revising how the Standards for Mathematical Practice are tagged in lesson and activity narratives to be more consistent across the grades.
Work mindfully and collaboratively—with purpose, flexibility, and transparency.
- Collaborate with the team on project planning, product design, work processes, and problem-solving.
- Communicate with IM and external stakeholders about products and processes.
- Example: providing regular updates on specific projects.
- Help train contractors and give feedback on their work.
- Understand project requirements, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Commit to seeking and listening to feedback to help each other grow, see our blindspots, and recognize and disrupt patterns of inequity.
- Example: providing regular updates on specific projects.
Lead small-to-medium projects.
- Review and approve monthly contractor invoices for projects they lead.
- Estimate costs for potential new projects.
- Solve problems that come up, either within the project team or by marshaling resources outside of the group.
- Plan project timelines and processes with the project manager.
- Create training materials for contractors.
Collaborate with other departments from across the company.
- Provide feedback on IM’s and partners’ marketing efforts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with curriculum design principles.
- Support efforts to screen or secure new projects by giving input on proposals or grant applications.
- Provide feedback on professional learning products.
- Support IM Impact work.
Work with providers of IM Certified curricula.
- Evaluate potential supplementary products for alignment with IM Certified criteria.
- Ensure integrity and alignment of the core product, proposed new features, and product expansion with IM Certified criteria.
Required Candidate Qualifications
- Experience working in a team-oriented, relationship-building, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the goals and design of IM K–12 Math™.
- Attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to seeking and listening to feedback that encourages growth, surfaces blindspots, and recognizes and disrupts patterns of inequity.
- Excellent K–5 mathematics content knowledge, including knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and Progressions Documents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must reside in and be legally authorized to work in the USA.
- A minimum of four years of experience creating, maintaining and revising K–5 math curriculum materials that meet Common Core State Standards.
- A minimum of four years of experience designing problem-based math curriculum materials.
- Experience meeting the needs of teachers and students.
Preferred
- Excellent stakeholder and project team communication skills.
- Experience teaching or developing IM K-12 Math
- Willing to learn:
- The IM Content Management System (CMS), Wrike, Asana.
- Website editing/typesetting including basic HTML, LaTex, or another markup language.
- Comfortable with:
- Website editing/typesetting including basic HTML, LaTex, or another markup language.
- Strong computer skills with cloud-based systems, especially Google Workspace applications, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Zoom, and Slack.
- The IM Content Management System (CMS), Wrike, Asana.
Compensation and Benefits
In alignment with our commitment to equity in practice and policy, Illustrative Mathematics is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b plan annual contribution equal to 4% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision. This position is exempt. The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000.
