Job Description
Under administrative direction of the Director of Student Support Services. This position will have the primary responsibility of providing leadership and direction for the Muckleshoot Tribal School Special Education, 504, Gifted and Talented/Highly Capable, multilingual programs and other related services. This administrator is expected to work cooperatively with Building Administration in providing leadership in the areas of program compliance, curriculum and instruction, communication, staff development, fiscal management to link Support Services with general education programs. In addition, they will provide educational and student development leadership for the Tribal School; plans, organizes and evaluates programs and services and promotes communication with students, parents, staff and the community for educational effectiveness.


  • Provide technical assistance and facilitate in service training for staff related to meeting individual student needs including classroom accommodations, test accommodations, behavior modification programs, referral process, FAE/FAS, ADHD, autism.
  • Provide leadership in screening and interviewing applicants including substitutes, and/or recommending of applicants to be interviewed.
  • Provides educational and student development leadership; implements school curriculum and procedures; supervises related co-curricular and extra-curricular programs and manages their continuing review, evaluation and improvement.
  • Provide and facilitate workshop opportunities for parents related to understanding their child’s individual needs including parenting, FAE/FAS, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism.
  • Implement all policies and regulations related to students with disabilities as required by the BIA/BIE. Maintain required documentation and submit timely required reports.
  • Assists the Director of Student Support Services with the development of the annual budget.
  • Maintain student support services compliance requirements for the BIE/BIA which includes IEP process & documentation, NASIS recording, portfolios, and 504 plans.
  • Assist and advise in the application of school discipline policies and procedures and provides guidance on the management of students in classrooms, lunchrooms, hallways and on school grounds.
  • Support and review the annual master schedule, working in conjunction with the principal and school leaders to ensure that all students needs are met.
  • Ensures the maintenance of a wide variety of records; prepares and presents a variety of reports as required.
  • Assesses student emergency health and safety needs and ensures appropriate action.
  • Administers student records; ensures evaluation of each student’s educational growth and development; provides periodic reports to parents and other administrators.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • Evaluates student development results against school objectives, statutory requirements and best professional practices.
  • Remains accessible during school hours to take action on any situation that may arise.
  • Provides counseling and guidance to students; encourages, motivates, coaches, corrects and disciplines students; communicates and confers with parents to promote student learning, success and appropriate behavior. Communicates with outside agencies concerning children, as necessary.
  • Serve on various committees to represent the school at the direction of the Director of Student Support Services.
  • Provide leadership in Care Team and IEP meetings. Actively involved in the pre-referral, creation, review and implementation of all IEP’s and 504 plans.
  • Directs the activities of assigned Special Education Program staff.
  • Coordinate the instructional affairs within assigned departments, and externally, where pertinent.
  • Collects and interprets a variety of data; provides reports for administrative purposes.
  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate referral process, CARE team, special education services, gifted and talented program, multilingual program, special education service providers, testing/assessments, staffing to meet the needs of individual students, secondary transition services, 504 plans and accommodations.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with the community, parents, students and the public regarding school programs and services; communicates concerns to the Director of Student Support Services; leads and secures parental and public involvement and support.
  • Implement, monitor and analyze the effectiveness of students support services including special education, gifted and talented, and multilingual services; and 504 accommodations
  • Supervises and evaluates personnel; serves as mentor to staff; observes and provides feedback regarding performance; trains and motivates staff; works with staff to resolve problems; recommends the appointment, assignment, promotion, probation or dismissal of certificated and classified staff.


Required Bachelor Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. Three (3) years’ experience as a K-12 Special Education Teacher, and five (5) years’ experience in Special Education Administration. Washington State Teaching Certificate and Washington State Educational Administrative Leadership Certificate.


Preferred Master’s Degree in Special Education; Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsement.

Washington State Teaching certificate. Washington State Administrators certificate. A current and valid Washington State driver’s license may be required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
