KBR is looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to provide a wide array of mechanical engineering support for spaceflight instruments for the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The position is full-time working at our Maple Lawn Facility (Fulton, MD) and on-site at NRL in SE Washington, DC.
Support entails concept and detailed design efforts and creating fabrication drawings with CREO/Windchill, working with procurement office and vendors to get hardware fabricated, and tracking hardware fabrication and procurement to ensure timely delivery. Additionally, the position includes configuration management for drawings and documents released for project support. Other tasks may include writing assembly and test procedures, assisting with assembly of ground support hardware, and supporting environmental and performance verification testing. Environmental testing includes vibration, static load, shock, and thermal vacuum.
The candidate must be a self-motivated team player with good communication skills and a strong eagerness to learn and contribute. Experience in mechanical design and working fabrication and assembly drawings is preferred.

Specific duties shall include:
- Perform mechanical design in support of mechanical designers and engineers to complete instrument assembly layouts and interface control, fabrication, and assembly drawings
- Serve as configuration manager to facilitate and control release of drawings and documents
- Communicate with structural, thermal, and optical analysts and other subsystem leads in electrical, contamination, mechanisms, mission assurance, and systems engineering during all phases of the project to support hardware design, build, and test
- Support subsystem leads with project documentation, deliverables, and verification of instrument requirements
- Develop work order instructions and assembly procedures and work with mechanical technicians
- Work with procurement planners to initiate fabrication of hardware and track status of delivery

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Knowledgeable with Computer Aided Design
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills, good communication skills, and ability to interact well in group meeting/work environments
- Experienced with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) software tools
- This is an entry level position
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
Desired Experience & Skills:
Pro-E/CREO and Windchill Software
Understanding of NASA project phases, requirements, and specific deliverables
Building, testing, and handling mechanical hardware
Working with structural, thermal, and optical analysts
