Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Lynnwood, WA is seeking to hire a Mechanical Engineer I to join our team of diverse, professional problem solvers.


The Mechanical Engineer I works under immediate supervision and uses established procedures to perform engineering duties in researching, planning, designing, and developing products for use in the Aerospace or Electronics marketplace. The Mechanical Engineer I works on new product designs and existing product designs, modernization, and upgrades, as well as performs extensive analyses to ensure cost, quality, and customer requirements are met. Working within a collaborative Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment the Mechanical Engineer I uses analytical thinking and innovation to ensure customer goals are met.


This position is eligible for our Crane Flex Hybrid schedule which allows for the option of up to 2 days/week of work-from-home. Some conditions apply which will be discussed during the interview process. Full policy to be provided after hire.


Responsibilities


  • Understand product and process requirements to support product development, sustaining and R&D.
  • Plan and manage work activities to support meeting project schedules and budgets.
  • Support continuous process improvement activities including Kaizen, 5S practices to ensure an organized and efficient working environment, and personal development.
  • Generate and review documentation related to product development and prepare technical reports and documentation necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements, including proposals, procedures, reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Generate and review product development documentation including proposals, technical reports, procedures, correspondence, etc. necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements.
  • Utilize proficient problem solving processes, documentation, tools and analyses to quickly and effectively identify root cause and corrective actions to technical challenges in support of product development and product sustaining assignments
  • Utilize judgment with the guidance of a mentor to plan and accomplish goals. Produce thorough and accurate design and development work of suitable complexity that meets all customer specifications and company requirements for schedule, cost, producibility, quality, and reliability.
  • Work effectively with all functional groups to achieve product performance and cost targets. Build quality and manufacturability into the design. Define/understand/comply with company and regulatory guidelines to assure a safe operating environment.
  • Self-directed and motivated while working and communicating effectively within a team environment that consists of several engineering, operations, quality, and business disciplines.
  • Provide support of IPT activities in collaboration with other technical, operations, quality, and business disciplines.
  • Generate models and conduct analyses that are in compliance with customer requirements and appropriate agencies
  • Demonstrate proficiency with verbal and written English for technical reports, presentations, analyses, or other communications at the appropriate level throughout the organization.
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management


Experience


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of Materials and Process
  • Design for manufacturability and manufacturing methods
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Principles, including mechanics of materials, shock, vibration, heat transfer, and dimensional tolerance analysis


Education/Certification


  • BA or BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master’s Degree is a plus.


Knowledge


  • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Principles, including mechanics of materials, shock, vibration, heat transfer, and dimensional tolerance analysis
  • Strong knowledge/experience of thermal management a plus
  • Strong knowledge/experience of vibration a plus
  • Knowledge of conformal coatings, adhesives, and plating/finishes a plus
  • Material Review Board and Failure Analysis a plus
  • Design of products for harsh environments – e.g. high vibration, high temperature, corrosive


Skills/Abilities


  • Proficiency with mechanical 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor, and familiarity with numerical analysis software


Employment Eligibility Requirement


  • Thisposition requires access to controlled data or information and therefore only US persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).


Working Conditions


  • Standard office environment
  • Occasional travel to customer and outside test lab facilities for technical interchange meetings, design reviews, product testing support, and to attend technical seminars
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
  • Requires work with small to medium size hand and power tools
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
  • May need to periodically travel domestically and internationally (up to 15%)

Salary range: $80,000 to $94,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications.
