Mechanical Engineer – Intern Jobs

Summary:

We are seeking a creative and analytically skilled intern enrolled in a mechanical engineering school who can assist our engineers in creating designs, drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), documentation and testing of our analytical instruments. The individual will work in a dynamic team environment interacting with software, firmware, electrical, manufacturing and service engineers, as well as physicists, chemists, consultants, and customers.

:

• Creation and modification of custom parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings all within the SolidWorks CAD environment.
• Documenting the BOM, standard parts and work assembly instructions for designs to be transferred to manufacturing
• Participates in and assists in the decision-making process of teams design reviews
• Checks designs and documentation for completeness, accuracy, and manufacturability
• Building of prototype systems and documenting work instructions

Responsibilities:

• Operate electrical/optical/mass spectrometry test equipment
• Assemble and disassemble test configurations as necessary
• Assist with functional testing and analysis of newly developed products to ensure operation and reliability
• Improve and document manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes procedures to remain current with industry standards and new products
• Assemble multi-level electro-mechanical sub-assemblies into complex assemblies using a variety of hand tools
• Assist with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing of test failures for system level test

Basic Requirements:

• Enrolled in a University for the 2023 school year concentrating in Mechanical Engineering
• Working experience with SolidWorks CAD

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of clearances, fits and tolerances of mechanical parts
• Self-motivated
• Basic understanding of BOM structure, creating parts, drawings, and assemblies in SolidWorks
• Must be fluid in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
